A simple question, if you had the opportunity to shoot a gun at a range, would you refuse. If you do refuse, is it because you are afraid of looking foolish, not interested, etc?

I fired rifles when i was in the air cadets. I bet that surprises some of the resident gun nuts.

I even have an ATC marksman badge. A grouping of 5 rounds in the space of a 50p piece from 20 metres. Some guys got the RAF marksman badge (10 rounds in same space from same distance) unfortunately they stopped awarding it by the time I qualified.

Would you willingly go to a range though?

I have in the past, it would be a little silly of me not to now, or in the future.

I've got nothing against guns per sae, but if I lived in a country where they were readily available to any idiot with enough money on demand, I would be very uncomfortable with that.

I have shot both a rifle at a range and a shotgun for clay shooting. I don't think "looking foolish" even comes into the equation.

I am ex-Army. So I have spent significant time on ranges. Civilian ranges are ok, I have even run them for friends since I am qualified. There is a long distance from civilians shooting under professional supervision with a Lee Enfield to right to a gun culture.

Fantastic rifle and slick as snot for bolt manipulation! I own two of them, however, I would wager that some of our amateurs could outperform your professionals. 8)

Definitely.

I would be against shooting at a range... of anything less than 500 metres. That would be *completely* unacceptable.

Sweet, that's the type of shooting I like. Of course it is hel! trying to find a range that is that long. So far the best I have been able to manage is 300 yards on private land ( my normal range accuracy is 1in. at 100 meters) but I am confident I can shoot out to 600 meters.

My longest shot (where I could hit a man-sized target) was 600 metres - with a Heckler & Koch G3 battle rifle using only iron sights during military training. I was also the only one in my platoon capable of doing that 8).

However, I didn't get to fire a lot of rounds at that range, and it is almost impossible to find shooting ranges in Denmark exceeding 200 metres.

Furthermore, at that range, one would probably need a bolt-action rifle (and a scope, obviously) to be consistently accurate in a sporting environment.

I've never been to a range, but it sounds like fun.

How fat and tall are man sized targets in Denmark? :P
Just kidding, I prefer bolt actions more because I like the look and find them to be more accurate.

I was an RSO at a machine gun shoot in Cheyenne Wells one time where they were flying model aircraft around for people to shoot at, had salted the field with sticks of dynamite, propane tanks, and other pyrotechnics, and had hauled several junker cars out into the field, tied off the steering wheels, then pinned the gas pedals. The cars were also packed with propane tanks. That was a lot of fun, I personally blew the hood off one of the cars at about 900 yards with a LAR .50 BMG rifle, and did some surprisingly accurate shooting out to 800 with a souped up AR; the plane got shot down by a kid with a MAC11, much to the embarrassment of the guys who'd been shooting quad belt fed guns at it, and at the end of the day we all shot together at an old manufactured home they'd hauled out to the far end of the field and packed full of dynamite and detcord. You *really* needed good eye and ear protection on that shoot.

The picture I'm using in my avatar came from a similar shoot in Colorado Springs, not as crazy as the Cheyenne Wells shoot, but we still got to blow up a car at the end, during which I dumped 7 magazines of .45 from an HK UMP into it. I wish I could find my other pictures from that one, I shot an old German MG42 in 8mm Mauser from the shoulder at that event, it looked extremely badass...

As you "shoot" a target and "fire" a weapon, I presume you mean lining up a gun downrange and actually firing at it.

Yeah, I suppose I'd feel silly doing that.

:P

I like shooting clays. They aren't stationary and they presumably don't feel pain when they explode LOL

I don't like going to the driving range because I have poor coordination and I embarrass myself.

The same principle applies.
