Very likely innocent man faces indefinite detention

Basically, this man's life sounds like something that comes out of Kafka:

Boy, police work was shoddy as all heck in the 80s, wasn't it? I keep hearing about cases like this over and over again and it always goes back to really really shoddy police work done back in the 80s, where apparently police were more interested in making it appear they were doing something than in actually doing something.

So... he was convicted based mainly on eyewitness testimony, right? Testimony which has been demonstrated by psychologists (I've just covered this in my course) to be very unreliable, and I believe was known to be so back in the 80s...

I hope they've got a lot of money saved up, because they owe him, ooh, 1-2 million dollars in lost earnings, plus compensation for stealing a large part of his life, plus compensation for his family...

The man was pardoned on Wednesday by Governor McAuliffe:
