Is the Tea Party roughly the American equivalent of the Conservative Monday Club?

No, they are extreme opponents to Taxation mostly. Mostly conservatives, some Libertarians and handfuls of "anti-tax" extremists. They all hate the federal reserve and disagree with continuing printing of money.

They are not comparable to UK's CMC, they are racists.

The CMC was generally considered to be the ideological bastion of the Conservative right rather than plain old racists by the bulk of the party and much of the general public. Although it was commonly referred to as far right in the media little evidence exists that any significant number of people suspected that they were open or secret Nazis.

The Tea Party is well known for its opposition to Islam.

My friends a Muslim and in the tea-party (He's a tad too conservative) as he's a fellow store owner. He's also a big anti-pot guy so I don't hang with him much. They come in all colors, religions and what not...don't believe the media description as it's not factual. Well known things...are rarely true.

Many conservatives, dislike Islam and as do many liberals...of course some within any group of Americans will be anti-Islam by a percentage. Saying the whole group is one way...is inaccurate and only said to silence a group by their detractors.

Keep in mind they are infiltrated by Lyndon LaRouche wacko's, who are unconnected to the TP but try to co-opt their protests, often with weird crazy signs. I'll bet you never heard of them...that show's you how much the media hides.

It's a tax thing...that's the root, and base of the movement ....outside of hating the federal reserve. They really despise our federal reserve and believe it to be a racket. Just so you know, our federal reserve is owned by a small cabal of bankers so they have a point.

The Tea Party is essentially an astroturf movement engineered to look like a grassroots uprising. It was actually all funded and organized by extremely wealthy individuals who wanted even more power over America's government. The ultimate goal is to make America's industrial sector more like China's by removing all oversight and laws that protect consumers and employees. Meanwhile, most of the participants are rubes who think that their benefactors have their best interests at heart.

We in UKIP have often been compared to the Tea Party (by detractors) but it's not accurate as UKIP is the Conservative Party's direct rival. Many UKIP members are ex-Tories, but some (especially in Northern England) are ex-Labour too. UKIP is more left-wing than the Tea Party is (UKIP don't want to scrap the NHS if the population doesn't want it) and more mainstream.

The Monday Club is dead in the water and has been for a very long time. They were suspended from the Conservatives in 2001 because of their racism.

I wouldn't call them neo-Nazis or anything like that, but they had some dodgy political affiliations in their time.
