I was watching Watchmojo's video Top 10 Sexiest Music Videos (no surprises there)

In the comments section, you see Feminist statements like

Quote:
How come there weren't any males exposing flesh and being the object of our sexual desires? Oh yeah...because women are the only kind off sex that sells, riiiight. Like I don't care if ya'll breats are hanging out, but the way these women were displayed..it insulted me. Not that a woman havn't got the right to dance sexy and dress sexy, for Gods sake..do what ever the hell you want. But you can't deny that this was sexist as f**k.

These videos pissed me off...Blurred lines nearly made me throw my computer out the window. Has no one heard of RAPE CULTURE? No?

Quote:
They got the title wrong. It should have been top ten sexist videos of all time. Apparently the only videos that are sexy are fantasies produced for heterosexual male consumption. The sign of a female teen star "maturing" is that she sells out and uses her body to sell crappy, generic music. Then of course there is the rape culture promoting "Blurred Lines." How anyone sees that as more than a man boy fantasizing that he knows what a woman wants better than she does ( "I know you want it" - the stereotypical line guys use just before they rape a girl) is beyond me.

So, are these videos "sexist?'

Definition of Sexism wrote:
n.
1. Discrimination based on gender, especially discrimination against women.
2. Attitudes, conditions, or behaviors that promote stereotyping of social roles based on gender.

I don't think that these videos discriminated against women--indeed, they provided employment for women.

They could, however, be construed as "promoting stereotyping of social roles based on gender": i.e., sexy women cause heterosexual males to experience sexual arousal. Which is how things generally work in real life, anyway.

"Rape Culture" is mentioned. Which must mean that the females in the music videos are Rape Culture sluts, who merit public shaming.

So, what say ye? Are these videos sexist? Are they even sexy? Are the women Rape Culture sluts, and we are naughty for watching them?

I think the list is sexy but sexist because they mostly show womens bodies.

Like what about something like Red Hot chilli Peppers could have made the list.

Male rocks stars have usually performed shirtless. It's a disgrace that females music stars have not performed topless. :x

I think this one objectifies men too.

I knew that the first lady to post would automatically invoke the O-word. Which confuses me to no end.

Do you mean to say that this video is objectionable to men? That we consider the men in the video to be sluts? And, that we are offended that women experience sexual arousal while watching this video?

These women are where they are out of their own free will, ergo, the music videos are not sexist. There are plenty of times where you see 50 Cent shirtless as well (and to be honest, it takes a lot more work for a man to get a body like him, than it takes a woman to get a body like Britney Spears); it doesn't mean that his music videos are sexist.

Well, that's true. All that a woman has to do is avoid American fast food, junk food, and soda pop and she is fine. For a man, he would be "too skinny." Pumping up the muscles requires a lot of effort.

Is it? I wondered. Personally I don't find it arousing - they are a little too pretty.

So in what sense does it objectify men?

Because they become more objects than people - like a representation of a form rather than an individual.

I wonder why some people consider the material to be sexist, and the women participating in it not to be sluts? Maybe traitors to Feminism would have been a better term?

I say they are manipulative. Music should speak for itself. People who use images like these to vizualize their music don't believe in their own talent. Videos like these turn me off from the song's
