I saw both of those. It was pretty good, but when the guy got out of the Amish, he decided he didn't want to work and shouldn't have to, that he should just preach and God would provide. Talk about a slacker!

Amish society is not some type of utopia. They have troubles with domestic abuse, child abuse, in-breeding, kids doing drugs, etc.. There is a ex-amish community over in Columbia, MO. My boss is ex-amish. Those isolated amish communities are a nightmare.

I would think a place without hardly any modern day conveniences would be hell on earth and make one old before their time. The media always make them look so perfect and pious but it doesn't look like it would be that great being Amish to me. The kids are kept uneducated and ignorant so they have little choice but to stay and since there are so many children in one family, they have to go find their own farms. Just sounds like a piss poor existence in a lot of ways.

Haha if I lived some place without any streets it would be nice to know my horse would take care of me and get me home if I were passed out drunk. Cars can't do it.

I live in Amish country and it really is not like this video suggests. Sure there are horses and buggies, but the Amish also shop at Walmart and Dairy Queen and other local places The Amish run businesses specifically catering to tourists and these places use electricity. The Amish drive and ride in motor vehicles and work on local construction crews using modern, electric power tools, at least in the community I live in.

The pic reminds me a little of a story from old west times in Spokane, when a local guy had gotten into his horse and buggy stinking drunk, and passed out immediately. The horse, apparently figuring where the it's owner wanted to go, walked with buggy in tow to one of a whore houses.
