Consequences for non-compliance will result in citizenship bein g revoked "and you will be forced outside the country with a confiscation of property." A registration fee of $50 would be required, it said.

I find this scary.

It's a mistake to believe sensationalist stories like this in the middle of a cold-war stand off. People should verify things like this before they comment on them.

This is an eerie portent; pretty much how things started in Nazi Germany. What's next? Maybe painting the star of David on their door, shortly followed by the arrival of cattle rail-cars.

I'm about as non-practicing, anti-zionist, and non-militant a Jew as you could hope to find, but this makes my blood boil.
I'm angry about this, in a way I never thought I'd be in regards to my ethnic identity.
Angry to my core, down in my gut.
I'd gladly go to the Ukraine and fight to defend my people from this prelude to atrocity, and I'm normally almost completely non-violent & unwilling to fight.

Can you even imagine how the rest of my people, many of who are much, much more invested in being Jews than I am must be feeling?

The story that papers demanding the registration of Jewish people were handed out bearing the signature of the person in charge of the temporary government. However the temporary government leaders have denied all involvement, saying the flyers are forged. It looks to be extremist/provocative behavior by unknown private group(s).

There is a propaganda war going on right now, no reason to believe anything like this. The Kiev government and their western allies pretty much have to make up lies like this when considering the fact nobody in eastern Ukraine supports or recognizes this coup as legitimate, otherwise it just looks like Ukraine is killing its own people. A lot of "Russian Special Forces" we've been hearing about engaging with Ukrainian troops and taking over buildings are middle aged, fat, and with unmatching uniforms if you actually watch the videos. I don't believe there is a significant presence of Russian troops in eastern Ukraine. There are more than enough civilian volunteers, the remnants of the Berkut, and defectors from military. The Ukrainian troops would be doing a lot worse if they were going up against real Russian soldiers.
