I am sorry but I have been homeless and been on the streets with people who are so commonly mischaracterized as "lazy bums' who want a handout.
In reality, the majority of homeless are veterans and people who have lost their jobs and everything they own due to no fault of their own but simply being victims of the economic downturn. That is not mentioning all of the mentally ill among the homeless class who can barely manage to get through the day. I have watched the same homeless people who are at the soup kitchen and the church sleep centers line up in the morning at all of the "day job" centers, sitting for hours waiting for a call to come in to send them to any job they can get. I have watched with my own eyes this process of employment office merry-go-round.
Yes, there are people who will take advantage of the system but these are not in the majority. It is a small segment of people who abuse the system and it is absolutely shameful to exaggerate those numbers to exploit and stigmatize the suffering of other human beings and then turn around and talk about "Godly" things. it is hardly an act of Godliness to minimalize and dehumanize people when they are down.
You do not help people by kneecapping them and shaming them when they are down. That is not the way to help human beings
I'm so sorry I upset you.

Believe me. Even though I'm not religious I sometimes wish there was a hell just to punish all the as*holes in this country. My post was angry satire. I was hoping it was so extreme that nobody would take it literally. I know there really are people out there who think like that and it makes me feel ill and despise the human race. I make fun of a certain mindset because it's easier to laugh than feel rage and despair.
