Its amazing how much different life must be for a child who gets rightly diagnosed. I only wish I knew

With my daughter, we got her diagnosed by the time she was five. But I wasn't diagnosed properly till I was already in my forties.

I don't know about the perception of a child with AS, but try being an adult with AS, bipolar or any comorbids and try getting a job if the prospective employer knows about your mental issues and more than likely that employer is going to view you as mentally instable and a serious risk to other employees.

My boss thinks my AS is cool ("just like that British Sherlock!"), and actually likes me even more because I'm open about it. I've been out of the autism closet for years now, my experience has been pretty universally positive.

So far, everyone's reactions to my Asperger's has also been positive.

Honestly, I have not been in the position of having to tell anyone about my AS since I was placed on disability shortly after being diagnosed. I only see the generalities of society reaction when they hear about people involved in these mass shootings having AS.

I don't think that is going to help. I already look like a victim.

Considering that my wife was just about the only woman I had had any success with, I suspect I probably give off psycho vibes.
