It is a refuge from politics. I absolutely loathe politics because no matter what, someone always gets squashed.

If religion would do its constitutional duty and stay out of the political arena, it can be where one goes to feel immune from political insanity.

Religion has no constitutional duty. However, religious folks can/could still share what you seek by just doing as charged:

"Clean and undefiled religion before the Elohim and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world." (James 1:27)

What does it mean to say that religion should stay out of politics? Isn't that a bit anti democratic? What would it have meant if MLK was exempted from political action on the basis that his ethics were informed by the teachings of Jesus?

It is not religion in politics that offends me. It is religion in public policy, public education, and legislation that offends me.

It certainly isn't where I live. It's becoming more radicalized so much that I warn of possible religious fascism.
