Why aren't the people who whine about "entitlements" complaining about this? Maybe because they are making money from this

They are, of course. The JSF project has been hotly disputed since before the first X-35 staggered reluctantly off the tarmac. It was clear 15 years ago that what is now the F-35 would be a hole in the air (when it can get into the air) into which sundry governments would pour money, and that's exactly what has happened. Outside of LockMart employees, and pols with their hands in the pork barrel, the thing has few defenders.

And yes, people who concern themselves with military aviation tend to lean to the right politically, if only because leftists find such things icky.

You really ought to do a little research before tilting at yet another strawman.

The thing is that this is not the only failing defense project draining our resources. I just wish they would stop this attack on the poor, SNAP, welfare and SSI and turn that energy on these wasteful projects instead of attacking people who need the help they receive.

Teething problems with new aircraft are nothing new. Just about every new military aircraft has gone through it's growing pains, albeit expensive and painstaking.
They field a new aircraft and start finding issues that they didn't or couldn't have found during development and pre-delivery test flights.
They create and issue TCTO's to correct them in the field.
Same song different chorus.....

But to be fair, the defense budget has gone down slightly, and should continue to do so based on continued effects from the sequester and the limitations put into place by the Budget Control Act of 2011. Continued reduction in overseas involvement should also help reduce spending. That does not alter the fact that planes and tanks are being built and then parked/scrapped immediately. There was an issue last year here in Ohio about the threat of losing a few hundred manufacturing jobs as a reason reason to keep building Abrams tanks the Army doesn't want (they have over 4000 unused tanks in storage already).
