For me it happened in 2011-2012. There was the Occupy Wall Street. Upon first hearing of it it sounded like a silly & cute cause to stand up for. Soon it was apparent it was dominated by vicious-minded spoiled brats who seemed to dogmatically equate substantial wealth with immorality.
I also began to notice bigoted attitudes on message boards. A post that sticks out in memory was made in the summer before the 2012 election where an atheist poster implored people to "Vote against the stupid." He told stories about how he did repair work in rural Tennessee, about how uneducated and ignorant people there were about appliances, about how they voted GOP in lockstep, about how hyper-religious & intolerant they were of atheist. As people jumped in to agree, it occurred to me how if he altered just a few words of his post it would be an apt description of the inner city blacks of cities like Memphis.
I was involved in an online community having to do with a comedy show back then. People involved in and fans would only see humor in and mock Republicans and conservatives. Criticizing Obama was off limits (even as he does many of the things Bush did) and reason for suspicion of backwoods prejudice. People almost never used facts to back up their opinions, they just assumed their side was always right and embraced Democrats no matter what they did. Many people there would only be open to liking a comedian if he wasn't conservative. Some of them only wanted to or wanted to go out of their way to explore exclusively comedy from leftists. They attacked conservatives on social media, sometimes being misinformed of what their positions actually were (i.e. assuming all conservatives must have the same opinions on social issues).

When I turned 22 and they started to attack me and my rights.

I agree with democrats on welfare, but they are wrong on other things.

is it liberals or progressives that I dislike. are the two the same?
They seem to be interchangeable names.

It's their way or the Highway. they can't be wrong, so you are wrong. Anyone who disagrees is an idiot.

the tea party is in ways similar, but on the opposite side.

The moment criticizing homosexuality became deemed as bigoted and the critic a bigot
The moment Chick Fil E was attempted to be shut down because the founders were Christians and tacitly disagreed with homosexuality.

Whatever you accuse Liberals of here, Conservatives do the exact same things in their own ways.

What is there to criticize about homosexuality? If you're criticizing homosexuality you may be bigoted but you might not. Maybe you're just ridiculous. That'd be like criticizing eating, bike riding, and masturbating. If you criticized bike riding people would just laugh at you. It's the same with homosexuality.

Moot point. You still can't deprive someone of their freedom to criticize

Actually, It's perfectly valid to organise a boycott of a business because it donates to organisations that try to strip groups of their civil rights. There's nothing unconstitutional about it. I am sure you would have no qualms about boycotting a business that funded organisations which attacked the demographics which you belong to.

I was car-pooling to a special election event with the lady who would become the speaker of the Minnesota House a year or two later. We had a great conversation about transportation policy and budgetary statistics, but then I brought up the need to reform our state universities. She was a Democrat, and the topic was seriously off-limits.

Our schools were just handing out sweet jobs to rich kids who paid their dues, without making sure that any of them studied. We looked the other way because they voted Democrat. We were throwing away our state's future to buy their votes. I was a Democratic organizer, and utterly disgusted.

But would you say the same thing if "homosexual" was replaced with "black?" What if Chick fil E was critical of blacks and interracial marriage?
We're talking about people's worth, no matter who they are. Yes, people have rights to feel how they like, but no one has the right to vilify a whole group of people in the public square, whether they be blacks, gays, Jews, Christians, Muslims, etc.

I have yet to, though I've been quite weary of all the b*tching I hear about liberals....liberals this, liberals that, you'd think every problem in this country exists due to liberals. Funny since the word means

liberal

lib·er·al [lib-er-uhl, lib-ruhl]
adjective
1.
favorable to progress or reform, as in political or religious affairs.
2.
( often initial capital letter ) noting or pertaining to a political party advocating measures of progressive political reform.
3.
of, pertaining to, based on, or advocating liberalism, especially the freedom of the individual and governmental guarantees of individual rights and liberties.
4.
favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, especially as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties.
5.
favoring or permitting freedom of action, especially with respect to matters of personal belief or expression: a liberal policy toward dissident artists and writers.

what is so bad about that? So I wonder when people say liberal do they even know what that means or is it just easy to jump on the liberals are the devil bandwagon? Or is it that we have a s**t ton of people posing to be 'liberals' but acting more like facists and these represent most of what people refer to as liberals? Or are there really that many people that think progressive change has to be some evil devious plot to screw everyone over?

So I suppose aside from being fed up with all the whining about liberals I am a little perplexed by the whole thing as well.

Also just like conservative does not mean 'republican' and liberal does not mean 'democrat' but it seems they then get used interchangably, maybe that is another issue...I think the republicans and democrats both do a terrible job of representing the people. I likely lean more towards liberal ideas since I am all about positive changes to societies and less government interference in peoples personal lives but I am do not like the democrat party, as far as I know there is not a specific 'liberal' politcal party and I doubt there is a specific 'conservative' political party....politics are a mess, seriously.

It is bigoted. How is it not bigoted?

No-one but the most contemptible fascist would argue that criticising a black person for their blackness isn't bigoted. How is it different to that?

Moot point. Laughing at your ridiculous criticism and/or calling you a bigot doesn't deprive you of your freedom to criticize.

I'm not sick of liberals, either. Hell, I'd be a self-hating liberal if I did!
