Calvary is about a good priest who is given a week to wrap up his affairs before he is to be killed. This film depicts the various positive social functions of the Catholic church, while fully acknowledging the crimes carried out by the institution. It raises the question of whether the church has a place in modern iIreland.

A lot of anti theists don't take into account the important legitimate functions of religion, and I think this film would be useful to them. It was to me, since It's rare to see a perspective on the social benefits of religion away from the agenda driven, often hysteria of the new atheists, and the self serving propaganda espoused by the faithful.
