I have been watching a show on inventions that have existed for thousands of years yet some people believe they are purely modern then got to thinking about certain discoveries or inventions that have really revolutionized how people live, like the auto, and long ago, the wagon wheel and wondered if there's such a thing as The Complacency Effect meaning people are so happy with the new discovery, electricity is a good example, it delays newer discoveries, such as something that might be even better than electricity..

So, is there such a thing as The Complacency Effect or has somebody already noticed this and named it something else, or is it all utter nonsense?

Undoubtedly. A simple example is that of vacuum cleaners. Hoover and everyone else made cleaners that sucked air and filtered it through a bag. All manufacturers did the same until Dyson came along with his cyclone idea that didn't need any bags. He tried to sell his idea to Hoover and the other big names, but they weren't interested, so he went it alone and took a huge chunk out of their markets.

What happens to the dirt with a dyson?

If they dont use bags then where does the dirt go? Not trying to debate- just always wondered how that works.

Inside a plastic container that you simply tip out into the garbage (trash). The principle of operation is entirely different to a bag based cleaner which simply filters the dirt out. The ingenious cyclone effect causes the dirt to settle out into a receptacle and clean air to be ejected from the cleaner - I don't understand the details, but it is a radically different approach (Hmmm I wonder if the vortex of air acts like a centrifuge?) I keep meaning to take a look at how the Dyson bladeless fan works too but haven't got around to it... they look cool (pun intended).
