Giants in Antiquity
What do you all think of various race of giants that existed thousands of years ago and were said to be wiped out by Israelites? Did they really exist? Did they build cities like Baalbek with its unbelievably enormous stones? It is said the last race of giants died where the Dead Sea sits today, where they floundered in slime pits that existed back then.
Do you think it's possible a lost species of giant hominids existed or were they just really large humans or what?
And before people start to say it's fairy tales - not so fast! Baalbek is no fairy tale! A city like that built 5,000 years back is phenomenal indeed.
Here's an interesting video all about it:

It's fascinating Baalbek was written about thousands of years ago in more than one source and it was described as being built by giants and the stones are the largest in the world way too large and heavy to move even with a crane in the modern age. So how do you explain it? The stones came from a quarry five miles from where they were found. Very mysterious.
Paleontologists are discovering evidence of previously thought mythological creatures all the time. Homo floresiensis survived until 12,000 years ago, so there is precedent of intelligent non human hominids surviving into relatively recent times.
Have you seen The 13th Warrior? It's a retelling of Beowulf, as if it was historical, with neanderthals filling in for Grendel. Grendel could actually be based on something historical, like neanderthals, I suppose. Then again, maybe some vikings ran into some gorillas, or maybe it was based on a particularly feral human adversary, or nothing at all.

Oh dear hear we go again. I am not going to bother posting what I found just now after a very cursory search for information about these stones, except to say that among all the nonsense regarding giants and aliens their is real research, real archaeology, real math, and larger stones, that have been moved far further than the short distance from the Baalbek quarry, which by the way is considerably closer than 5 miles, and downhill.
ANA someone on another recent thread of yours suggested you go to the trouble of reading actual books and learning about the subject matter that concerns you. This is very good advice

Hi what my church teaches is that the giants that we read in the Bible where actual humans (my church is the seventh day adventist if you want to check this up) Its like before the fall of men , humans where bether in everithing , smarter, taller etc. But sin starter to mess up our genes and stuff and we became shorter and less bright and ...yeah.
And we also think that nephilins didnt exist, they where like 2 tribes in the begining the sons of seth and the sons of caim (i dont know if you call him that in english but oh well) and at the begining they didnt mix with each other , but the sons of caim saw that the daughters of Seth where realy pretty and they decided to merry them and they made giants - they say giants becouse the sons of seth where more close to the original then the caim ones thus being realy tall.
Back in Josephus's time. the bones were around, and he wrote about them being on display.
It's easy to be incredibly skeptical but if you were not there you cannot know for sure and a lot can happen in 5000 years. Betcha there are species we don't know about that have gone extinct, all kinds. The arrogant will simply say they never existed because they were not fossilized but they would be wrong.
More than one source says Nimrod, the guy who was in charge of building Baalbek, was indeed one of these giants.

I suppose you also believe in talking snakes?

No but I believe in weird, ET like creatures vaguely looking like snakes only much more hideous and otherworldly. They could exist. Why be so arrogant and proclaim there isn't possibility for life besides earth?
Don't you ever wonder where ideas originate? At some point there is certainly a possibility that strange groups of weird beings roamed the land, even if they are just humans that have interbred for generations or something, or genetic mutations, who knows? They could have lived outlaw lives. Look at David, he fought with a huge being of some kind that seems to resemble a very large Conan the Barbarian type.
Places were less organized, there were less people and more wilderness. Cities had walls around them to protect them, especially at night. So you can bet there were lawless marauders hiding out in the canyons, caves, other patches of undeveloped land. They could have been very brutal and dangerous, wild animal-like but human or something similar. It is not out of the question.

You aren't talking about prehistoric times, but rather recent history, in the last 10,000 years or so. If so, where are the bones? I'm not arrogant when I believe things based on evidence, not a books of morality stories of questionable reality.

Well you know there are plenty of bones that aren't around today. Just because something had bones 5000 years ago doesn't mean you will ever see these bones. There's a chance you could, but it is not certain. You just don't think about stuff like that because you think everything that dies right now will be evidenced 5000 years from now. It is not so. There will only be evidence a fraction of it existed.
There were people back then that felt the same way you do now. They thought they were keeping such good records and were so smart nothing would ever get lost mankind would always know all they would need to do is record it and now look - a lot of it is gone. So you see, just because you have convinced yourself everything will last and last doesn't make it so.
Well then you are just gonna miss out because we have insects, bacteria, erosion, mad dictators that destroy stuff, kings that destroy stuff, religious folk that destroy stuff, floods and fires.
