Besides the fact that you're 13 we dont know anything about your family situation. So we couldnt say.

I assume that they are religious.

Since you're only 13 I would think that they would treat the fact that you disagree with them about something philosophical like that as just a juvenile phase you're going through, and not get upset about it.

If their anger seems outsized that may indicate something about them: it may indicate that they themselves are insecure in their own hfaith. Just a thought.

Most likely, because they're scared. Religion exists to control people with fear, which is probably why they're behaving as they are now.

If you sincerely held the belief that your child was was going to be eternally tortured if he didn't conform to a specific set of values, wouldn't you be extremely worried?

I'm sorry that I don't have any advice for you at the moment, but I hope they come to accept your position in time. Stay strong.

Sounds like you've got religious parents, which likely means you live in a part of the world where religion is still endemic (as in disease). In many parts of western Europe religion is irrelevant to most people. In the UK or France it would be more unusual to express an interest in religion at age 13 and declare oneself a Christian!
Possibly the best strategy is to mention nothing more of your atheism to your parents. Religious families can end up getting very nasty if any members reject their religion. Just leave religion as a non-topic with them. So unless they try to drag you to church it shouldn't be too much of an issue. I still occasionally attend the wedding or funeral of a friend in a church, but I just stand at the back and don't sing or pray without being noticed. I can still wish my friend or deceased friend well without getting religious about it.
