It's already the case. You want to live your life you need to pay taxes, if you don't pay taxes that means you don't have the right to live a nice life and are destined either to be poor and die in the cold streets, or end up in jail because the government hates anyone who doesn't pays taxes, even more than rapist, killers or pedophiles. Meaning De Facto life is illegal if you don't pay.

There'd be a lot of criminals around.

I'm still waiting for birth to be regulated in a UK-derived country. You know, tests, licenses, fees, restrictions and whatnot.

fairly widespread eugenics laws in the last century made this a very pertinent question. eugenics won't die.

Sounds kind of like the matrix. Life is a crime punishable by a life-time of being an unconscious dreaming battery.

When the machines take over life will be illegal.

Then when they start to question the definition of life they'll wonder if they're really any different than us. We've been described as biological machines afterall.

Once they twist the definition of life they'll be considered alive and they'll start prosecuting each other. They're be a big fight and once they consider themselves alive the machines will change the law.

Then they'll try to make amends to all the humans that have been convicted of crimes they themselves committed (according to their new definition of life) but we'll all be dead.

At the rate things are going I wouldn't be surprised if they charged taxes for breathing air.

It's already the case indirectly. In some European countries like Sweden (some who read my posts know already the grief I have with radical Sweden) they tax you on the amount of CO2 that comes out from your home, and say they are doing it for clean air.

"What if life itself was illegal"

We'd all be in favor of electing better people into government.

That isn't a breathing tax though, any more than fines for improper sewage management are taxes on swimming.

And of course it isn't for "clean air" at all, it's to help fight climate change.

It basically already is, the government has made it so everybody can be considered a criminal in one way or another. You are not free.
