Is there a traditional way, an honourable way or one that is considered that?

For example, say that you had just all your skinned burned off and you were going to die, is there a "proper way" to honourably kill yourself?

Bullet in the head is the modern way.

If you want something slightly retro get your best bud to cut your head off with a sword.

I was thinking more "classic" or "retro," as you refered to it as. :)

What if my friend isn't around? Sword, me? Slice my stomach open? Sounds harsh.

Knife in the right shoulder.

Your heart will rupture and you'll quickly die.

Meh, to me a death is a death. The best way to die in my mind is the one that leaves the least mess and causes one the least personal pain.

Well, I know medieval samurai cultures in Japan committed suicide as a way to spare them the shame of defeat.

Go on a killing spree. Rob banks. Steal nice cars. Then die in the shootouts with the cops.

I do not think you should be giving him any of these suggestions. He is either asking for attention or he is trying to figure out if some forms suicide has a positive standing in some cultures.

Neither, I was merely asking a question. As well, my culture? I'm not living in a Zooloo village in Mid-East Africa :)

I asked the question as Samurai's have a way of killing them. I wanted to know if there was some 'buddhist' way of dying or something to that extent.

The classic Roman style. With your friends and family around you;
even helping by loosening the bandages for you. It's best to die when
surrounded by love and perfection.

I do not know of any such way. All I know is that ritualistic suicide as practiced by some cultures is usually done as a way to preserve dignity and honor, as a way to avoid humiliation.

there are many ways that are considered honorable...but it's up to the individual as to what is defined as honor to them.

in the end, it's just an illusion and it won't matter once you're dead anyways.

The Hemingway solution; quick, fool proof, and not likely to leave you a veggie. Honor, tradition hell, your body (or what's left of it) dosen't matter after you're dead.

inhaling helium. the body thinks you are breathing, but the lungs think you're drowning. I drowned once, (and had someone break a rib pumping the water out of my lungs) and I sometimes long for that euhoria. I didn't have any memory of the recent struggle to breathe, I didn't need anything. I was perfect.

I know that there are belief systems wherein one just meditates their body to stop working. I've tried, but never quite gotten the hang of it.
