Today, it's spread out all over the news that #1 US presidential hopeful Donald Trump criticized John McCain's military service, stating that "he's not a war hero". OK, technically he's correct: McCain was captured and held POW for several years - so who did he save?? What act of heroism was he able to display while incarcerated?? Again, technically The Donald is right - BUT YOU JUST CAN'T SAY THINGS LIKE THAT!! !

It would be more accurate to refer to McCain as a determined survivor. But if the masses want to continue thinking of him as a "war hero", who the heck is The Donald to disrupt that??! My balanced and objective pair of pennies. :)

McCain was still a decorated Naval pilot prior to being a POW: he flew attack aircraft and fought in combat. Even still, he was captured after his plane was shot down from the sky and spent nearly six years in captivity, subject to severe torture which left him with permanent mobility issues.

I'm not a fan of John McCain's politics, but I definitely wouldn't downplay his military service OR his captivity, especially at the word of Donald Trump, who used various student deferments and a vague, unexplained "medical exemption" to get out of serving in Vietnam. The only combat Trump ever sees is his daily struggle to comb his hair.

Trump has no respect for anyone other than himself and it's great that some in the Republican field are turning on Trump saying that he would be a terrible President.

At least John McCain served his country while Donald Trump was serving only himself.

McCain is a hero. Trump is a coward.

I'll not be voting for any presidential candidate who has not served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

McCain is not a good person and doesn't deserve any respect considering his life's work. He was a mediocre at best soldier who graduated at the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy, he probably should of never been allowed to be a pilot. He was protected by his admiral father his whole career and exploited his own POW status to further his career in politics while abandoning his fellow POWs left behind in Vietnam. When he was a POW he blabbered on his fellow comrades in an attempt get better treatment which he already received as an Admiral's son. He wasn't a hero, he survived.

At least McCain served, and he served honorably; so did I, and so did a lot of other people. Unless you're also a veteran, you have no standards by which to judge us.

McCain is a greater hero than I, and certainly a greater hero than any slacker who was able to serve, and didn't.

Donald Trump could easily be replaced by a flea-bitten jackass with a bullhorn.

McCain is an embarrassment to his fellow soldiers, I'll question the moral character and the sanity of anyone with that amount of blood lust. He's hid behind his POW status since the day he got home and hid behind the fact the he was an Admiral's son before that, it is about time somebody is finally calling out his record. He was an incompetent showboater as a pilot, he spent most of the war bombing the civilian population in North Vietnam. Trump is an as*hole, McCain is a traitor.

I choose to criticize mccain for what he's done for us lately.

I was with him right up until 2001.

It's a shame how he has spent the last 14 years tarnishing his legacy.

"War hero" is an oxymoron.

I don't really care for either of them. Trump may have a point, but verbalizing it to a world wide audience is bad judgement. McCain served and did the best he could. Maybe he wasn't the greatest soldier, but he served.
By calling out McCain like this he is being disrespectful to the military.
As much as I'm rooting for Hillary, Trump would have to be my second choice as the satirical reality and sheer absurdity would be proof that we are living in a level of Hell.

I really wonder what Trump's true psychological issues are, aside from being a colossal narcissist. You have to be divorced from reality to run for president, and not realize how making such arrogant statements would be received. Any clinicians care to make make a diagnosis?

Merely the usual pre-election mudslinging. Nothing new and there’s plenty more to come before the fat lady sings next year. If it comes down to having to choose between one of those two birds and whatever slug the democrats fish out of their cesspool I’d be half tempted to sit the election out.
