I wouldn't have a problem with this because I believe strongly in family helping family HOWEVER since we are talking about a Republican and they make an art of complaining when it comes to people living off government assistance - what do they have to say about a governor with three adult children who all live at the governor's mansion at taxpayer's expense. One even uses it as a mobile home lot. Yep, she gets to live there without paying rent she would in some other location. It's just another example of people living off the taxpayer's dime only this time they are Republicans, the same party that condemns others for government handouts and continually moans about government spending.
They refuse to set the example they expect others to follow!

It doesn't say whether the governor is going to pay for this out of her private funds or not. If she does that, it should be ok. If not, it's wrong, and it's even more wrong for a Republican since they're all about not getting handouts. Can you imagine if that was a Democratic governor?

Yessss the Republicans would rake any Democrat doing the same over the coals. Hannity would harp on it for a year!
What she is doing is typical Okie culture. People like to share their resources with family and when one's going through a tough time and the other has land or something, it's normal to say, just come out and hook up a trailer, you can stay here! In that respect, it's perfectly normal.

If Governor Fallin were using her own money to somehow reimburse the state, she would have likely made a big deal out of it but she excused it by saying her daughter is using the same taxpayer sponsored resources anyone living in the mansion would except that's not true. Since she is living in an RV, she would be paying rent anywhere else unless it was private land and whomever owned it said it was okay and since Governor Fallin doesn't own the property the mansion is on...the state should be given the appropriate rent and the poshness of the grounds along with the pool should be taken consideration, also. It's not just a rundown park but very upscale so the rent would, naturally, be really high. Factor in the governor's staff, if they cater to her. Not sure if they do or if her daughter does some work around the mansion. They haven't been very precise about what, exactly, is going on nor have they tried to justify it in any way, other than Governor Fallin loves her children and will always be there for them all, to help them out any way she can.

A lot of people are wondering why her daughter lives in the RV instead of in the house. Maybe she has a lot of belongings she wants to keep an eye on. They would be safe if parked on the mansion's grounds even though it's in a pretty bad area. It's run down over by the capitol even though it's gone through a tiny bit of gentrification. Still pretty bad. It's not a prime area so even though they try to sell the neighborhood by the fact it's near the capitol, no one likes the school districts so they don't buy and remodel the large, historic houses once popular with the politicians.

I have family roots in Arkansas, they came to California just ahead of the 1929 stock market crash, and while they were better off in Los Angeles than they would have been in Fayetteville, it was still difficult.

What they would do, is if one member of the clan got a job and was able to rent a house, all the kids from several interlinked families would go stay with the job holder. I've seen some of the houses that they stayed in, and the houses were 1 or 2 bedrooms and a single bathroom. And we're talking maybe a dozen kids. I'm not sure if they even had mattresses, in some cases they slept on wadded up cardboard.

Back in Arkansas they lived in flimsy board shacks without electricity, running water, or toilets, so even the life in LA that I described was heaven. They had a toilet and running water and electric lights, a bathroom and a kitchen, maybe even a radio or two if the breadwinner was pulling in the moolah. The kids would go to school during the day and play outside until sunset, then do homework and maybe listen to the radio if the house had one, then go to sleep.

The males were expected to join the army after HS graduation, and the females got married. That's just the way it was during the First Great Depression. The Ozark people have never been rich, and neighbors help each other out. If you have a bag of flour, you give some to a neighbor so her kids can have bread. That sort of thing. I like it better than today's winner take all and screw you society.
