Edited title to fit. In reference to not condemning KKK leader, Trump claims
"I don't know anything about David Duke, okay? I don't know anything about what you're even talking about with white supremacy or white supremacists."

And when asked directly about the KKK:
"But you may have groups in there that are totally fine,"

[edit - the interview is here: http://www.cbsnews.com/videos/what-did- ... t-the-kkk/ --the first two minutes of the video (after the stupid ad).]

this is a classic media smear

Not so. I've seen the videos. He said those things. there is no "smear" involved, just plain, ordinary, honest reporting.

How so and where?
The only rebuttal i heard is he said his earpiece wasn't working so he didn't hear the question. But if he didn't hear the question, his reply would not be "david duke? I know nothing about white supremacists..." It would be "What?" "Who?"

If he knows nothing about white supremacists and their history, fit to be president?

And if he does but feels they shouldn't be lumped together as bad, as some kkk groups might be okay and after all,"Honestly, I don't know David Duke. I don't believe I have ever met him. I'm pretty sure I didn't meet him. And I just don't know anything about him."
Well, he apparently knows Duke is a white supremacist since he just said so in the prior reply.. But because he hasn't had tea with the guy, maybe he's an okay chap after all and thus his supremacy group shouldn't be condemned? Fit to be president?

He disavowed the endorsement multiple times and in the interview they are talking about groups as in plural and Trump is quite correct in that the media thru radical organizations like the ADL and SPLC label pretty much everyone left of Stalin as a hate group so it makes no sense making blanket statements. It doesn't make any sense why he should even have to comment on it, nobody else has to answer for whatever wackjob supports them and this is because this a very old media trick to smear candidates they don't like.

Trump is very smart tho, I imagine he planned this because he already clearly disavowed the endorsement but gave a more nuanced answer on Sunday and now all the news channels are talking about this controversy instead of Marco Rubio or Ted Cruz.

if a group like the kkk publicly endorses a candidate, i think it's fully reasonable to ask the candidate if they endorse the group, or if they instead say 'i don't want any votes from the kkk'. there's no smear there. candidates get asked when publicly endorsed by a group like the kkk.

as for groups in plural, he was asked about a group that he himself referred to as white supremacy, not some broad "hate groups". it was point blank "i'm just talking about david duke and the ku klux klan"

did he do it on purpose? quite possibly. it keeps his white power votes and then his denial can keep other votes that *might* leave if he didn't condemn them. meanwhile it takes away any focus from his fraud case or any talk of debate failures.

i still don't understand though - given everything else he has said, why it would be a surprise that he would say such a thing and why people come to his defense that he never would. it fits eloquently with everything else he's said. it's not remotely far-fetched and no conspiracies or smear campaigns required.

There is no KKK in 2016, it's just random yahoos that play dress up in the woods. David Duke's 15 minutes ended like a quarter-century ago, there isn't any reason to spend any time discussing him and anyone else related to this matter. They are not relevant, the only reason they are getting any attention is because the media is waging war against Trump. Trump is not a member of the KKK nor would they accept him or his families lifestyle, his daughter converted to Judaism and is married to a Jewish man. Trump's pretty huge in Israel, he's spent his whole life in New York City.

"And you know it's just one controversy over another. But I have to tell you, Alisyn, I'm sort of tired of what I see, the name calling and what I consider to be childishness when we are running for president of the United States. He obviously should have immediately condemned him. I can't tell you what the heck happened. But this is like every day, it's like a circus. "

i tend to agree. it just seems like an ongoing wresting extravaganza. the debate wasn't much about issues, just shots at each other. fox says 'f*k' about paying for the wall and 'it just got ten feet taller and fox should apologize for such a filthy word'. it just seems a complete farce. which, all in all, i guess i'm not surprised. but at least candidates (seemed) to have more than sound bites once upon a time.

Tell that to the three counter-protesters stabbed at that Southern California KKK "rally" last weekend...one had his abdomen perforated by a metal flag pole by those non-existing people.

According to the SPLC, they have around 5000-8000 members, mostly in the South.
https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate ... -klux-klan

Back OT, documents seem to indicate Trumps father was in the KKK, having been arrested when 1000 of them thrashed around 100 police officers in 1927. And according to a 1979 article in the Village Voice Trump (the father) refused to rent to black home-seekers, quoting a rental agent who said Fred Trump instructed him not to rent to blacks and to encourage existing black tenants to leave.
( http://boingboing.net/2015/09/09/1927-n ... trump.html appears to have the most succinct summary of this, but his reaction here http://www.nytimes.com/politics/first-d ... t-in-1927/ is interesting )

Their fault. They attacked the KKK march, which is protected under your 1st Amendment. Whilst the KKK may hold opinions people don't like, they're only opinions and are protected under your laws. There's video of it all out there, and the KKK were defending themselves.

As for the thread, Obama marched with the "New" Black Panthers. Puts things into perspective, yes?

The point there was to the statement that there is no kkk.

And the march, are you referring to the civil rights anniversary march that thousands attended and was not about 'the new black panthers' as the statement implies?
