A lot of you may not be familiar with Manly P Hall, he was one of the most well-known writers on occult philosophy during the 20th century. Like a lot of people in this branch of philosophy he also did a lot of analysis on sociological issues - most of which probably would be considered a lot less controversial in it's orientation.

I'd be curious as to what some of the education majors and teachers might think of this. He says a lot about the problems that have been endemic to the educational field from the dark ages forward and, while I'm pretty sure this speech was recorded from the 1960's, he hits on a trend of schooling consuming significant stretches of a student's time, being obsolete by the time the person graduates, and the somewhat more modern problem (even 50 years ago) of the need for retooling and re-education being life long as well as the ramifications that might have on people's orientation to society, family, etc..

Take a listen and see what you think on his suggestions and observations. Do you think we've come around a bit better on some of these things in the time elapsed since this was given?
