Didn't know if this should go in Adult issues or not, but I figured since it's of a more political nature less of a sexually discussion it would fit here.

My oldest brother is a cabbie in the largest city in this county, and his last fair was a prostitute getting off the train station. The lady was black, bought 6'2 in high heels, a bit above average in terms of weight, unfortunately she smelled like she hadn't showered in over a year, she wore a very filthy leopard print dress, and my brother could see the outline of a black eye underneath her sunglasses (this was at 2:00 AM mind you). When my brother asked "we're to" she said "just get me to a cheap motel suga'" she tried to get him to drive to a town that's 50 miles away but my brother couldn't do that. They got to the motel she paid her fair in cash, and that was that.

It got me to thinking though, why does this woman have to go around at 2:00 in the morning? Why hasn't she been able to shower in so long? Why does she get assaulted by her pimp? It seemed horrible that a human being should be put in these conditions simply for working. In 49 states prostitution is illegal, the exception as we all know is Nevada. It seems like if prostitution was legal nationwide it would generate more jobs, less people in jail, and better overall health for the prostitutes themselves. Not saying that legalizing prostitution would get rid of illegal prostitution and sex trafficking, but I think it would help a lot of people

I guess should have specified, but I believe that both male and female prostitution should be legal.

Prostitution became illegal around the same time gambling, drugs, and alcohol did. You can thank the Progressive movement for that, they sought to eliminate all "social ills" by force of government.

The government has an interest in keeping it illegal ....

prostitution is a money-maker cause of car seizure

Prostitution sting nets five men, three cars
Five men were arrested and three vehicles were confiscated during a third recent undercover prostitution sting in Bradenton.

An undercover vice sting that started shortly after nine Thursday morning on a strip of Kensington Avenue notorious for prostitution has resulted in six arrests.
And police added to the pain by seizing the cars of the alleged johns.

Additionally, 39 vehicles were confiscated under a Tennessee law that allows the seizure of vehicles used in a sexual offense.

If most people actually *cared* about the well-being of prostitutes, prostitution would have been made fully legal a long time ago.

Prostitution is illegal because people are uncomfortable with it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it but people don't like it when it's visible. They don't want to look at it in their neighbourhoods.

If it becomes legal though then people will have no need to stand on the streets to sell themselves, they can simply be called to a house, or even use the internet for services. It's not like every Levittown in this country will have prostitutes parading up and down it's streets.

Casual encounters on craigslist is a joke and less you're good-looking of course hookers provide a much needed service in the world would be lost without them that's why they have always been here and always will be. Many of my clients are public figures doctors lawyers politicians lobbyist the very people who keep their mouth shut and contribute to " their "hobby" being illegal.

This created organize crime which is still growing because of these laws.
What is so strange is the least harmful thing prostitution will likely be the last thing to be made legal again.
Alcohol was made legal one of the more harmful drugs, by they way making alcohol illegal was never about reducing harm.
Then gambling with Indian casinos, state lotteries, Nevada.
Weed may become legal soon.

I my opinion this seizure of property and the illegality of prostitution is unconstitutional.

I have no problem with legalizing harlotry.
It's the do-gooders that have morality based issues.

Wow..finally something we can all agree on...

In a country where so many died for liberty for all...

DAM..everyone should be able to use their body however they want....

WEll the gay marriage first hurdle has been met...

Maybe one day..for this 2....

Then the country will be literally f*****g great!

I don't have any prostitutes in the family (i know of)

But at least one stripper did great work... and yes there is great money

to be made in selling sex..like everywhere else....

Oops forgot to answer the question..

Mostly because of religion...i think....

Not a problem in some scandinavian countries..where structured quasi-state infected religion is not so much of a problem..as we have here... per ideology of morals instead of common sense..... incorporated into politics.....

In Britain and America: a history of puritanism about sex (although some forms of prostitution are legal in Britain.)

In Scandanavia: the type of feminism they have over there.

I think it's hypocritical to have a culture where women are encouraged to see their bodies as commodities and then make prostitution illegal. You won't achieve sexual liberation and a world where women's (and young gay men's, and transwomen's) autonomy is respected by victimising those who sell sex. I believe in doing whatever works to ensure that people are healthy and safe, and that usually means legalising prostitution.

People who pay for sex completely disgust me and I would never get into a relationship with one, but the rights of sex workers in this instance are more important than my contempt for their customers.
