It's not significant and the US should cut even more foreign aid

that is what is on plate today for Trump, taking aim at international organizations and treaties

Theresa May is going to meet the POTUS in her official capacity as Prime Minister. Her duty is to represent all the people of the UK, not to represent the women of the world as a token vagina, or to make demands regarding US foreign aid policy in the name of a special interests progressive group.

The persistent suggestions that Theresa May should consider herself a woman over and above her being PM are demeaning, sexist and moronic.

Totally agree. It undermines any decades of her work and capacity as a politician.
America needs to reduce its foreign aid, let the world get on with it. Ron Paul would agree

Precisely. It also denies her agency as an individual, reducing her to little more than an avatar of her sex. They might as well be asking her to don one of those protester vagina costumes and limit herself to communication via placard.

moderating

This thread was briefly locked while offtopic personal posts were removed and a warning issued.

Quick review of pertinent issues:

Quote:
The following activities are unacceptable on WrongPlanet:
1. Posting offensive language, comments, video, or images.
Unacceptable content includes behavior intended to provoke or belittle other members;

2. Personal attacks.
This includes insinuation, ridicule and personal insults, regardless of whether direct or indirect. Attacking an opinion, belief or philosophy is acceptable, but attacking the person making the comments is not.

From the PPR Guidelines:
While it is acceptable to attack and debate beliefs (political, religious etc) it is not acceptable to make generalised attacks on the adherents of those beliefs. It is acceptable to say that Republicanism, Liberalism, Christianity, Islam are stupid but not acceptable to make generalised attacks saying that Republicans, Liberals, Christians or Muslims are morons. You could say that some of these people are stupid because of (reason) but not make generalised attacks on groups of people. Similarly you could not say "Christians are morons" or "Muslims are terrorists" or "People on welfare are bums". Confine your attacks to the beliefs and politics, not the people holding them. The one exception to this is public figures themselves – by the very nature of their roles they are personally open to criticism.

Please use this thread to continue to discuss Teresa May's statement and related issues, not each other.

So ,in effect, what some are saying is that May should not bring up an issue that affects women for fear of being branded an 'avatar' of her sex .
The suggestion that she should not speak out on an issue affecting women and the relatives of those women is quite offensive and irresponsible .

Who is saying that?

It's Theresa May's own suggestion, and she's absolutely correct. There are proper channels through which to address Donald Trump with your special interest group's concerns. Demanding Theresa May raise them at her meeting with the US President is not one of them.

Suggesting that the issue shouldn't be raised is bigotry in its worst form.

Are you going to address anything that has actually been said within this thread, or are you going to continue to pile on the logical fallacies in the vain hope that one will slip through the net?

It's disturbing that any suggestion that women's rights should be discussed should be met with such vitriol.

I totally agree----especially with the underlined part!!

I ALSO totally agree that America needs to reduce its foreign aid. I've said it, before, that I'm QUITE sick-and-tired of America seemingly thinking that any time another country sneezes, we feel we have to be there to wipe their little noseys, for 'em!! Meanwhile, too many of our OWN people, have alot bigger problems than a runny nose!!

I LOVE Ron Paul----his son, Rand, however, BOOOOOOOOO!!

I don't think anyone here is stating womens issues aren't important. There are women posting in this thread.
But for international pressure from joe public to make a female leader bend to their every whim in the name of womens' rights is a complete distortion in what government is set out to achieve. The two leaders are meeting, to discuss a wave of topics and progressing both their nations forward. Believe it or not, they do have a lot of other things to discuss. Some of those include what are being raised in the thread, which are equally topical and in the headlines.

Thanks, CC.

This isn't the first time May has been painted as a 'betrayer of women', nor is it likely to be the last. The way she comported herself in the BBC interview is one of the most impressive performances I've seen from any politician.

As Tories go, she's definitely one of the better ones.
