You know the little man on the pedestrian crossing lights? If you don't, you probably live in a country where the signals say "WALK" and "DON'T WALK". The fair city of Melbourne has decided the male stick figure on pedestrian signals is the cause of "unconscious bias" that could lead to ???

Is this political correctness gone too far? See for yourself!

Kill me! Arh i.it's a stick figure!

bloody hell lets just make them icons of aliens or robots.

And what pisses me off the most is how we have a energy crisis that if not solved will lead to mass black outs and the government is changing the gender of stick men.

Exactly. Maybe that money would have been better spent helping Melbourne's homeless problem. Maybe if we end up destroying the environment that a hundred years from now we won't have traffic signals. Or traffic. Or civilization.

I don't get why they think global warming is a liberal conspiracy to destroy indestry when a greenhouse effect feedback loop would destroy industry more thoroughly in the long run.

The corporations complain about paying a few million extra in carbon tax or whatever when they're destroying useful natural stuff that has a practical economic value of trillions of dollars. The government won't destroy big bussiness, big bussiness will destroy itself.

And besides, these corporations could make billions by inventing and selling renewable tech but they don't want to innovate. It's sort of like if, a hundred years ago two livery stables are going out of bussiness because of the automobile. One ownder rebuilds as a gas station while the other complains and says the car should be banned to preserve his business.

It wouldn't bother me...I wouldn't mind it, actually.

It costs an average of $8,400 to change six traffic lights.

I actually thought the expense would be much less. That's outrageous.

Even if this was an actual 100% real issue instead of complete BS, it wouldn't justify that kind of expense. If it was a real issue the best way to tackle it would be gradually replacing the male units with female ones when they break down.

What planet are these people on?

I demand 50% of all ships are referred to as HE instead of SHE. THIS IS DISCRIMINATION AGAINST MEN.

I don't mind it, but don't they have other issues to worry about? Also, is it implying that a dress is what differentiates a woman from a man?

Female crossing figures wouldn't bother me in the slightest. Just as the female ship thing doesn't bother me in the slightest. It's there to do a job and it does it. What does it matter what sex it is? It's the fact they're changing something that doesn't need to be changed that's the problem. If they were to just phase in the female ones as the male ones broke down it wouldn't bother me at all either.

And yes, I also found the dress amusing since gender warriors will rail against this kind of thing. Wheras the male figure could actually be a female. The pose is also very feminine.

Why were they assuming the gender of a stick figure anyway? Do they think females have to dress and look a certain way?

Exactly. What's next, the blinking red hand is going to have long fingernails to signifying it being a female hand?

It's iconography, not depiction. I'm on board with replacing the lights as they need replacement. I believe it's important for girls to see women in important jobs; I'm not sure "person crossing a road" counts as one.

Yeah I'm feeling super oppressed by these feminists. I don't own any skirts or dresses and my nails are ~ 0.5-1 mm long. These new signs are triggering and make me feel like I'm not a real girl.
