Why is it considered uncultured to be proudly American?

If you love America, you love your homeland and country. To me that is very sweet and full of patriotism.
America has religious freedom and it is a very wonderful country (albeit ,far from perfect), it is the freest of countries.

Some liberals view this as being uncultured. If you have a love of American cuisine , for example- BBQ,
cheeseburgers, apple pie- you are a hick. But if you enjoy 3rd world cuisine made from countries where people actually
defecate in the streets- somehow that makes you a sophisticate. I don't understand the mentality there.

It's not the love of those things, it's the refusal to look beyond them and dismiss new things as:

Although I've heard country music put down a lot by trendy American's, but I love it. I'm from the UK and country music is different and interesting to me.

We're not the free-st of countries. In fact, there are a lot of restrictions if you're not upper-class. For example, if you need health care provides it, you're often stuck with that job, because leaving it means losing coverage.

In many other countries, you always have health coverage no matter what so you can switch jobs or start a business without worrying about losing your health care.

I'm proudly American!

I like barbecue at least as much as a "hick." I was born and raised in NYC.

I also like exotic cuisines.

Have you been to those countries where people "defecate in the streets?"

I'm proudly American----but I love other countries, too!

I also like country music sometimes. There's nothing wrong with it.

Many West Indians of African descent also love country music; did you know that?

I'm American and I love my country. I'm not really liberal either. Actually, "liberalism" has been hijacked by socialists. There isn't anything wrong with other counties though. People just want to single out America.

patriotism is often associated with lack of knowledge of another cultures (or just a close mind to it). i don't think it's always true, but your commentary about other cultures was loaded with prejudice, there's no sense in dismiss others culinary due to a sanitary issue caused by poverty.


you can enjoy your country and culture without dismiss others, specially people who are less fortunate than you.

There are good things about this country, and there are bad things...currently I can't really say I like the direction the Trump administration wants to go in, I don't think they'll 'make america great'. But also rather confused about some of whats going on to, and exactly what all they can do vs. what they just say but are blocked by checks and balances.

Anyways I don't 'hate' america, that would be silly, I live here and there are plenty of good things about it...and some pretty cool landscapes, but I am not all that 'patriotic' either, I certainly have no problem criticizing the government or issues in society and things like that. I don't think it's un-american to do so, also too much nationalism is never a good thing.

I am patriotic, and I feel insulted when people insult our nation.

Trump doesn't help matters. He makes us look like fools.
