I know there were lot of close calls like that one guy who was going to work but accidentally missed his stop so he had to go back and boom a plane had hit the first tower. There was another man who got stuck in the elevator and pulled the doors open and right after he left the building, he heard someone shout "run" so he ran and didn't know why and the tower was collapsing.
I remember hearing at school from a girl in my choir that her grandmother's neighbor's daughter had walked out of one of the towers at 3 in the morning. My 7th grade science teacher was in NYC when it happened and she was okay. My culinary arts teacher was in Mexico when it happened so she was stuck down there and had to sell her sandals for money.
My mom and my husband saw it happen live so they saw the news anchor's reaction. My mom was in Billings, MT when it happened and she was in her hotel room getting ready and she had the news on. She was there for a class.
I have heard of other close call stories like people missing their flights, people in the tower got out when the building shook and the people in the other tower who saw the tower on fire got out. One man decided to abandon his project and told his boss he was leaving work. All these people survived because of their smarts and I am sure some copied others and left the building too because the other workers were.
People actually tried to land the plane in PA but instead it crashed. They also fought back and that plane was meant to crash into the White House but passengers on it fought back and got control of the plane.
And terrorists look like normal people. You can't tell someone is one just by looking at them. They dress like the rest of us. So that is why everyone has to go through security and have ll their items checked and leave any liquids behind and anything that looks sharp.
