These days I have leaned more toward Conservatism.

Democrats want gun control. That was not in the framework that America was founded on; and goes right against the Constitution, which for some reason, democrats always want to alter.

Did you know extreme democrats are technically Communists?


* I am apathetic toward the liberal argument supporting abortion. Just can't stomach the fact that it happens.

My more liberal leanings:

* I do support stem-cell research. If some of these cells are being thrown out and unused, and will never become life, I say GO FOR IT: let the scientists study.

I suspect this is about American politics, am I right? We do have a large number of people who aren't US-based.

In other countries, do the issues differ considerably among Liberals/Conservatives?

Yep. In Britain almost everyone wants having handguns to remain illegal (apart from many libertarians and so on, but that's another story). Conservatism and liberalism are different beasts in the rest of the world, I think.

We still have the same stale two-party system that you have in the States. Democrat or Republican, Labour and the Tories are now pretty much the same.

America in general has more of a libertarian approach in politics than Europe, at least economically. This could be seen even with far-left people here such as Chomsky.

Neither.

Mostly, the question is really between authoritarians and libertarians (not the Libertarian Party.) Both "Conservative" and "Liberal" as meant today are really authoritarians--the "right," or the "conservative," or the "Republican" side is all about economic freedom but personal control, while the "left," or the "liberal," or the "Democrat" side is all about economic control and personal freedom. And a moderate isn't the answer, either. A moderate takes the worst of both sides: economic control to appease the "liberals," and personal control to appease the "conservatives." And so pretty much you are left choosing between partial authority, partial authority, and total authority---which leaves you the proverbial short end of the stick as far as freedom goes.

What are the Libertarian Party like in the States? Any cop? We don't have any libertarian parties in Britain whatsoever - they're pretty much all an authoritarian mishmash. The closest thing we have to libertarianism is the UK Independence Party, a Eurosceptic conservative party.

I am a follower of the Constitution Party. It's neither libertarian or conservative. It's a mixture of both and it just makes sense to me.

I just want to make sure that I can (under what's written on our constitution) curse you out (freedom of speech) and then shoot you (right to bear arms) if you enter my house unlawfully (breaking and entering), and that you will get your day in court (if you survive) where you cannot sue me for an injury that you obtained while breaking and entering my home (unlawfully).

Politics are way more complicated these days than they were when the framers drew up the "plan". I am sure many are rolling in their graves at what's happening in today's world.

i'ma independent. i vote for whoevers more qualified for the job
