It's the man, the myth, the legend. Steven Patrick Morrissey! Personally, I love him. He's my favourite musical artist - I even like his newer stuff. He's depressed, acerbic, contrary, complicated, and often mysterious. And clever, obviously.
My question is - why is he getting bad press for his political commentary? Most of his 'controversial' points are well explained and reasonable and I fear that simpletons just read some twisted spin that is often captured in a headline and make their minds up about him...
Ticks me off, really.
It's often hard to admit that people we admire are bad people. Kevin Spacey is one of my favourite actors, so I was very disappointed when it turned out he was a serial predatory.
Morrissey has repeatedly said that he thinks immigration ruins countries. He has expressed support for Anne Marie Waters, an avowed Islamophobe, and attacks Sadiq Khan on the grounds that he "eats halal". He's called the Chinese a "subspecies" on the grounds that they don't have good animal welfare standards, which rather seems a contradiction in terms but anyway...
I also think his comments on terrorism are telling, although probably not racist. He said that Brevik's attack was not as bad as what happens in KFC and McDonalds every day. Meanwhile, he's attacked politicians for saying that Islamist terrorism will not break us on the grounds that politicians are never attacked. Well, maybe if we ignore the Brighton bombing, the assassination of Jo Cox, and the attack on Westminster earlier this year...
At best, the man is an insensitive blowhard (as well as a great songwriter, of course). I do think it is likely that he is a xenophobe, a racist, and an Islamophobe too.

He has also said that he likes Nigel Farage and UKIP. I think it born out of a fondness and patriotism of his own country and people, rather than a hatred of persons of other ethnicities, per se.
Interestingly, he has also described Donald Trump as being 'vermin' - even though Trump is typically classed as 'right-wing'. I think Morrissey's views go beyond typical political 'lines' and they often broach topics holistically and without regard to which 'team' a view typically comes under the umbrella of. The mark of an intelligent man in my opinion.
To the untrained eye, his opinions might seem partisan, but in my view he is ultimately non-partisan as an result of an analysis of his entire set of political comments that give us a clue to his personal convictions.
Well, considering that millions upon millions of animals are murdered every day versus a few hundred (?) people - I would probably agree with him and I'm not even someone who cares that much about animal welfare in general (even though I adore my pets).
His comments on whether 'Islam will break us' was probably in relation to the fact that there are genuinely very few attacks on politicians versus the victims of Islamic terror.

The US was founded by immigrants, built up by immigrants, and is still graced with immigrants.
Has he actually said immigration ruins countries - or is that what you have interpreted from his comments? I think he disapproves of mass immigration but doesn't mind limited immigration from what I can gather.

In this country, politicians seem to be at greater risk than everyone else. Two MPs have been caught up in terrorist attacks in the last year - that's 1 in 325. Even factoring in the election and by-elections, that's a much higher rate than the country at large.
How many terrorist attacks in this country are against musicians? The Manchester arena bombings were at the other end to Ariana Grande and went off when she was off stage. Morrisey's in no position to

Yeah, apart from the fact that the first 'immigrants' carried out the biggest genocide in history.

You can't talk about immigration without getting accused on hating immigrants. Mass immigration does ruin countries.
