After her Golden Globes speech what had been mentioned occasionaly went viral. Of course I do not know her intent but the rest of this post assumes she is or will become intrested and seroius.

Sounds crazy, about as crazy as a grade B actor, and realty TV star becoming president. Thing is she is a much much bigger star and more beloved at this stage of a potential run then Reagan and Trump combined. She endorses a book and it becomes a best seller, she endorsed Obama and away went Hillary’s 2008 candidacy down the drain. Sanders, Warren, Biden, Booker are not nearly as telegenic. She has enough money to run. The lack of black turnout that bedeviled Hillary won’t be a problem and she will get much more than enough of the white women who voted for Trump to make the difference. And how do you campaign against her, any negativity towereds her will be viewed as sexual harrassment(Oh yeah racist too).

So how can she lose? After Trump and to a lesser extent Obama people come to thier senses and realize electing a media celebrity with no experiance related to the job is a very risky proposition. One is allowed to dream.

she has massive influence, but has repeatedly stated before that she would not run, so curious as to why she's softening up to the idea, now.

she needs to avoid hillary's problem of being merely the "anti trump" choice and have her own independent platform and identity. when you are entirely defined by the fact that you aren't your opponent, you are as a stool without legs.

If Oprah runs for president, she needs to abandon her pseudo-scientific quackery.

I wish Schwarzenegger could run against her. That would be the most hilarious election ever.

She won't. We'd likely have a bunch of new age studies offices added to the cabinet and there'll be crystals and crystal pyramids all over the place. If we end up with Rhonda Byrne strolling around the White House I suppose her voters could thank themselves.

The absolute last thing the US/world needs is more celebrities-turned-politicans. Or at the very least, start out at a city/state level like Franken, Schwarzenegger, or even Reagan.

Oprah helped unleash the two "doctors" Oz and Phil upon the world, as well as Deepak Chopra, and gave some level of "credibility" to the anti-vaccine movement - I would argue that her net effect on the world has been negative.

I agree.

The stuff that Chopra spews is just plain surreal. If you want to spew nonsense, that's what modern art is for. Don't spew nonsense and then tell me it's truth.

In the last two years a lot of us have been understandably obsessed with white male working class voters and the elitist coastal bubble that to this day does not understand and underestimates them. While there is Trump’s America there is also Oprah’s America that loves her for the exact same reasons she is being criticized above.

Guys I hate to break it to you but many people me included just do not get her appeal to so many women, we are in our own guy bubble.

In order to be worth $2.8 billion one usually has to do some shady and crooked things. As a beloved heroine these have been ignored, as a Presidential candidate they won’t be. My hope is that there is something in her business is bad enough that it would deter her from running.

Not an Oprah fan. My tolerance for unscientific woof*ckery is sharply limited, and I'm just not into the touchy-feely sentimentality either.

On the other hand, I find it difficult to imagine she'd be worse than the current officeholder, il Douche.

Harvey Weinstein friend Oprah made a very SJW statement
Oprah might run for president. We did the opposition research for you.

Quote:
Winfrey was promoting her most recent film, “The Butler,” in 2013 when she talked to the BBC about racism. The original interview seems to have disappeared online, but some of her words will live on:

“There are still generations of people, older people, who were born and bred and marinated in it, in that prejudice and racism,” Winfrey said, according to MSNBC. “And they just have to die.”

Very low bar to set.

<--- Not the biggest Oprah fan, but would vote for her if she is the Democrats' best chance of beating Trump.

How do you know it's not the truth? Just asking.

No, I'm a "fan" of neither Oprah nor Deepak, and I think that either one of them becoming the U.S. president would be an even worse outcome than if Hillary had managed to get the job (which she thankfully didn't - whew! The world dodged a bullet there).

This article provides a good summary.

https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Deepak_Chopra

Deepak Chopra is a living embodiment of hippie crap. Hippies tend to say a lot of good things about politics ... but then they misrepresent science. Chopra takes the bad side of hippiedom to its logical extreme.

On a side note, what if Oprah Winfrey married Deepak Chopra? She's be Oprah Chopra.
