What if race wasn't a social construct and it actually was real?

Like ... what if the earth, in addition to humans, also had orcs, taurens, night elves, ect?

I actually think that separatism would be necessary in such a world. After all, the Neanderthals became extinct in the real world once true humans showed up in their land. I don't think that separate intelligent species would get along well in real life.

Only Gandalf could save us!

This is essentially the plot of that Will Smith film Bright.

As a short guy they may mistake me for a hobbit.

I think you might enjoy Dragon Age. All the races (species?) are bigoted towards one another to greater and lesser extents. The writers draw on real-world histories, such as those of Native Americans and Jews, to imagine what it might look like if several sentient species were forced to co-exist.

There's a movie like that ...

Humans, Orcs, faries, elves exist together ...

Elves are superior because of their superior intelligence, they stick with their own kind, and look down on others
Orcs are regarded as lower class and live in the ghetto areas
Humans seem to be the "worker class" , and work for the elves since they said "the elves control everything"

I know my spouse is Dwarf. He's sturdily built, strong and skilled in craftmanship... He would make a great smith have he lived in different times. And I don't really know what I am. A witch. Or maybe a jackdaw. Oh, no, that's not my race, that's my totem.

BTW, there is some evidence that Neanderthals have partially mixed into modern Europeans and Asians.

But those beliefs vary wildly. People who’d be considered white in southern Europe wouldn’t in the US, and some races are only held to exist in particular countries. There’s no such thing as “Hispanic” in Latin America. People with just a small fraction of African ancestry are classified as black in the US, but not in Africa, and usually not in Europe, either. Islam is a religion, and its followers comprise a lot of separate ethnic groups, often at odds with one another, but “Muslim” is very much considered a race in the developed countries they emigrate to.

It also changes over time. Older immigrants slowly become accepted into “whiteness” in “white” countries as the need is felt to discriminate against newer waves of immigration.

Yes it is subjective...there is a myriad of ways individuals interpret the concept...the problem I have is when a group of people collectively think that a person's ethnicity precludes social contact...
