I just feel that it's gotten way too dramatic now. Sure people have insecurities about themselves and who they are, but I don't think it should to the government passing new laws and new customs.

I read that now they are coming out with gender neutral birth certificates that do not classify the person as a certain gender.

But I feel the law getting involved and acknowledging this now will lead to all sorts of new problems.

For example,

But as far gender goes, I believe when the baby is born and the doctor decides what it is, using their medical expertise, and puts it on the birth certificate, then that is what the baby is FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES. But now they are coming out with gender neutral birth certificates I here. At least they are where I live, in Canada:

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/ ... ransgender

In that article, one person says that Canada now having this policy will 'save lives'.

SAVE LIVES??? Were babies dying from having the genders being on the birth certificate before?

Some people are treating this like a life and death issue, when they say things like that, I feel like a lot of people are just taking this too seriously.

But maybe not? What do you think?

No, because gender dysphoria is a serious issue that can cause drastic consequences. I don't know what it feels like to be transgender (I'm more skirting the belief that gender fluidity is a more legitimate approach, and we shouldn't really care too much about it) but most people who suffer this whatever you'd like to call it (disorder, issue, etc.) will suffer because of it. So does it really matter what others think and do? That doesn't affect us but it could well help them.

I think you need to do some more reading and research on this issue so you can understand it better. People who are transgendered struggle with the identity that’s been chosen for them. It’s not an easy path and we shouldn’t make light of their struggles.

Suicide is a big problem in this demographic.

ironpony, this is not a fad, not something people are doing to be cool or impress their friends.

Tell me, do you think women and people of color should vote and be taught how to read? Because those things were illegal in many countries, some of them as recently as the nineteenth and early 20th century. And what was the purpose? To prevent an entire subset of human beings from realizing their full potential.

Ask Gavin Grimm or Danica Roem if they feel that they can finally achieve their full potential. Gavin was born with female accoutrements, but knows he's male. Danica was born with male features, but knew she was female. They are both absolutely remarkable human beings. Luminaries. Do you really want to deprive them of their full humanity? Do you really want to deprive the world of all the good they have done and are doing?

Beyond that point, which is the most important one, what difference does it make to you? Really and directly, how does this affect you at all? None of these people are being trans, or gay, or lesbian, or poly, or ace, or bi, or nonbinary *at you* or *at* anyone. They are simply trying to be *themselves*. Just because they didn't get the standard-issue identity that most of us are accustomed to seeing around us, doesn't mean they have no right to theirs.

And honestly, if you have a bathroom phobia about them, try asking any bullied school kid who they fear most in the bathrooms. Hint: whoever their worst bully is? Especially any bully who has a posse? Gender totally irrelevant.

There's something worth putting an end to. How about refocusing on trying to annihilate the bullying culture?

Why do we even need gender on a birth certificate? Just put the sex of the child, that's what is relevant medically and distinct from gender.

It's not always possible, due to an intersex condition. In the past, doctors made a choice for the family, often without telling them. This could involve later surgery to "fix" them to the "correct" sex. Sometimes they got it wrong. In these situations it's best to wait and see what happens.

Transgender people are PEOPLE, too.

They didn't go transgender for the express purpose of harming anybody. It's a very hard thing to go transgender; they don't just do it on a whim. Lots of thought is put into what they are doing.

They certainly deserve respect. Unless an individual transgender person shows a lack of respect to me, I shall always respect them---like I would respect my cis-gendered next-door neighbors.

I've known a few transgendered people; I never had any particular problem with any one of them.

I don't think transgenderism is "getting out of hand." It's not like they are coming into government, and seeking to screw the cis-gendered.

Have you ever tried to buy gender neutral baby outfits for a newborn? Good luck doing so. There is usually one little shelf with a couple of green or yellow onesies on it. Everything else is baby boy blue or baby girl pink. For older infants and toddlers, the differences are even more stark. The boys’ outfits tend to look like the sort of thing fit for roughhousing in a sandbox. Meanwhile, the girls’ outfits, almost without exception, will be pink and frilly and designed to evoke the image of princess. We are a very, very, very long way off from the genderless society you seem to fear.

This new law will most likely be used by adults to revise their birth certificates to align with the gender (or gender fluidity) that they know to be true of themselves. What impact does that have on you? I personally don’t need to check birth certificates before I interact with most people.

The new law is also very helpful when a child is born with intersex or hermaphroditic characteristics, which happens more often than people think. Previously, parents and doctors had to guess whether the child should be labeled boy or girl. Some also went so far as to do surgeries to try to fit the child more distinctly into one gender or the other. Those decisions could have disastrous consequences later in the child’s life if the parents and doctors had made the wrong decision.

Nothing wrong in it at all. Transphobia on the other hand. Everyone has already said everything I would have.

Gender neutral clothes would be great for tall women and short guys.

Recent autism research shows that a disproportionate number of individuals are both LGBTQ and autistic. The intersection of both these groups is one of the largest subgroups of either group. While Female-to-Male (FtM) trans* individuals are the majority of LGBTQ autists, researchers describe several various gender and sexual "differences" among other subgroups, as well.

So, if some individuals are autistic, there is a good chance of them being LGBTQ, too. But, not always.

With this huge development in the LGBTQ and autistic communities, it is inevitable that we will see changes socially and politically. Perhaps we should welcome both groups as much as we welcome just one. After all, they are often one and the same.

The "Planet Fitness" case is relevant ...

"Planet Fitness" gym allows people to use the locker room that matches their gender identity.

So, male appearing people with a "lady penis" may enter and undress in the women's locker room.

A female gym member became so upset and complained that a "man" was in the women's locker room that "Planet Fitness" terminated her membership. She then sued "Planet Fitness" and won at a Michigan appeal court.

Okay thanks. When you say that those people were born with features that were opposite of their physical gender, could be more specific as to what features, just to help me understand this better?

I believe birth certificates should contain a record of the physical sex of the individual, and thus should contain categories for the intersexed but I do not believe they should be used for issues of gender or ideologies of the parents.

For example, a person who's child is a typical female or male but who wants to raise the child as gender neutral should not utilize the birth certificate in this matter.

It's important for birth certificates to record the actual physical sex of the child for use in studies that help us understand society and that drive policy. For example if 1 girl is born for every 5 boys in an area, that is deviation from the norm and one should want to know why. Are people artificially selecting for males through selective abortion or femacide? Is there an environmental pollutant affecting sperm production? If there is an over abundance of males being born in one region, what considerations need to be taken for the future? A larger police force? A need to draw more women to the area? Declining birth rates and the impact on social security or similar funds? What if there is an over abundance of females being born in one area?

What about an over abundance of intersexed babies being born in one area? Is it genetic or environmental?

These are important things to be aware of.

If I had a child the birth cerificate would list their sex and I would give them a sex appropriate first name and a gender neutral or opposite middle name for their use if needed.
I would prefer a naturally gender neutral environment when they are young but would not make efforts to raise them entirely gender neutral in the U.S. as it is not one; I would just like them to know their sex should not dictate their play and interest choices and that I loved them and accepted them regardless of their sex or gender and would always continue to do so.

But I thought that a person had to be of adult age to decide whether or not they want sexual re-assignment surgery, if that's what they are asking for. Are parents allowed to give their children sex change surgeries, before the children are psychologically mature enough to know for sure if they want something like that, without the child possibly being able to changing their minds later?

WHAT transgender 'movement'?

So transgendered people get a little publicity, so what? Does it make you jealous, or do you really wish that they would just go away?
