Yes, I would also add ethnic nationalism, such as Islamic nationalism (ISIS), Jewish nationalism (Israel), and of course white nationalism (USA, Germany).

White nationalism is really not a prominent part of the US ethos.....nor that of Germany, either.

Of course, "Jewish nationalism" is an integral part of Israel.

As far as "Islamic nationalism" and ISIS. Not really. ISIS promotes a particularly virulent sort of anti "other-than- their-brand-of-Islam."

I guess if if doesn't end in fascism, then it hadn't been nationalism, just patriotism ;P

There is "American" nationalism, yes.

And the US is primarily "white."

But most "white" people in the US don't espouse "white nationalism." I certainly don't.

Of course, there is a sense of "German" nationalism. But this is not "white nationalism," either.

"White nationalism" is something that fringe groups like "Christian identity" espouse. Or anybody who believes that the "white race" is something which is homogenous.

I happen to AGREE that nationalism resulting in fascism is a frequent phenomenon.

5 million people, some 15% of the nation, were Klan members in the 1920's. Also, most Republicans favored Trump, a known racist. Couple that with trans-partisan racism against Italians, Irish, Chinese, Jews, Japanese, and Africans throughout our history, and you get a pretty good picture of white nationalism in America.

That was the 1920s. This is now. Membership in hate groups like the Klan, while not miniscule, is not in the millions, either. Maybe about 20,000, tops.

People were looking for a change from the Democrats, rather than Trump, per se, in my opinion. People don't seem to be particularly "thoughtful" in this country. This is what I attribute Trump's "success" to, rather than "white nationalism."

There is no doubt that there remains an insidious racism in this country. But to call all Trump supporters "white nationalists" is wrong. Even though Trump was endorsed by known "white nationalists."

Many people were just looking for a "change," not realizing the repercussions.

I don't know any "white nationalists" myself. And I live in a city of almost 9 million people. I do know racists, but no "white nationalists."

I'm not a Trump supporter. Nor was I a Hillary supporter. I'm a believer in multiculturalism.

Which definition of the word is being used to make the absolute statement?

Also, what is the opposite of Nationalism?

Probably the closest to an "opposite" of Nationalism would be "Globalism."

My definition of Nationalism would be "xenophobic patriotism."

There are other definitions though: "advocacy of or support for the political independence of a particular nation or people.", for example.

I agree with that.

But history has imbued Nationalism with a negative connotation.
