As a Christian, I am opposed to Real ID act. I was assuming that Republicans would be more likely ones to oppose it since they are Christians. Turns out it was a wrong assumption on my part. The google search told me Obama was opposed to Real ID, and Trump supports it, Hillary was sort of on the fense. Also, California turns out to be one of the states that tried to postpone compliance with Real ID the most.

This being the case I regret voting Republican. To me, Real ID is far more important than gay marriage. Nobody forces me to gay marry but people do force me to take the Real ID. So -- as a Christian -- I would have voted Democrat, have I known the Real ID statistics that I know now.

Trust me, plenty of Dems are Christians.
Now, why are you opposed to ID laws due to your religion?

What’s Real ID and what’s its premise?

A real ID is a form of identification that meets increased security standards for state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards. Travelers will be required to provide either a real ID or another TSA-approved form of identification in order to fly after October 1, 2020.
The Real ID Act of 2005, Pub.L. 109–13, 119 Stat. 302, enacted May 11, 2005, is an Act of Congress that modifies U.S. federal law pertaining to security, authentication, and issuance procedure standards for driver's licenses and identity documents, as well as various immigration issues pertaining to terrorism.

The way the OP was talking I thought maybe it was in reference to a "mark of the beast" microchip being implanted.
It's just an augmented driver's licence.
You have to go to the DMV with a birth certificate, a social security card and proof of residence like a utility bill.
I thought that kind of stuff was required anyways.
And apparently a passport will suffice.
I got a special ID last year so that I could cross into Canada. I guess maybe it is a Real ID.

One of many pieces of terrible legislation that came about in the immediate years after 9/11. Every so often throughout U.S. history there is a gratuitous attack on civil liberties and basic rights via an ill thought out piece of legislation or Supreme Court decision.

How do we know if our current IDs are Real ID-compliant?

Any official copy of a birth certificate, obtained for $15 (in NYC, if born there) is perfectly acceptable to the DMV in New York State.

That shouldn’t have happened. Where was she born? And how long ago?

My birth certificate is accepted all of the time and it has spelling errors on it (what happens when you are born in a small town in New York). In fact, the town was still using registration books rather than paper certificates when I was born so I doubt they can make a copy of the registration line without showing the information of others born around the same time.
