I don't dream or remember dreams anymore. Can this be reversed? Do I just day dream so much that I can't when I sleep? I consider dreams to be one of those thing not understood, thus posting in the phil/relig board.

I am aware of a few techniques that may induce dreaming.

1. Meditate. This can relieve stress, which can act as a blocker in some people. Although it has been reported that some people when highly stressed have had vivid dreams.

2. Stop believing that you cant have dreams. This is crucial.

3. Keep a journal of your sleep patterns. Place it under a pillow or near you. Write your intent before you go to sleep and record what, if anything, you can remember when you awake. Even if it was to get up and relieve yourself.

4. Try using a placebo such as earplugs, a blind fold, or even a native american dreamcatcher. Melatonin has been said to work in some people though it is still in an experimental stage in my opinion.

5. During your daily routine, every so often, stop, look around, and ask your self if you are dreaming. Answer your own question and provide reasons why you are, or are not dreaming.

6. If you drink alcohol, try not to drink for a few weeks and see if this helps. The same may apply to Marijuana and other drugs.

7. If none of these options suit you, do some more research online. "lucid dreaming", "meditation+dreaming", etc...

I find when I am woken up very abruptly I tend to forget my dreams, but if I wake up gradually, I can remember them. Is there a similar correlation for you?

I have the opposite problem. I dream extremely vividly and remember my dreams accurately almost every morning. This is occasionally a nice thing, but given that the majority of dreams I have are nightmares, it usually isn't. I tend to wake up screaming, yelling, or crying on a regular basis. I've tried changing my bedtime, having a warm drink before bed, not eating for several hours before sleep, avoiding intense stimuli... it makes no difference.

So, want to swap? You can have my vivid disturbing dream epics, and I can have your dreamless peace and quiet

Sure I'll swap Tails. en_una_isla, I sometimes remember dreams when I sleep in for awhile and wake up gradually, just the oposite of you. VesicaPisces, I have definately dreamed while awake before. Its very surreal, Its almost like you are making your own reality. When I realize this I start laughing and if there's anyone around me they're always like, "what?," and I'm like "nevermind." Thanks for the advice. I've been trying to get to a point where I can start Pranayama. What's the explaination for day dreams? Is it just that some people are so disconnected with their everyday life that they make up there own reality. Too much TV over the year?

if you want to remember dreams, try sleeping for short periods during the day. i find if i fall asleep during the day, i always have vivid dreams that i remeber, and it also improves my dream recall overall. and try point 5 from vesica pisces list.

i started noticing that my dreams now are usually about whatever i've seen or done that day. this really sucks because its like living the same day twice!
