1)...The Question?

What horrible Greyhound experiences have
you had?

2)...Statements by Ghosthunter!

I logged off by 9:30pm 6/29/05' at the
Starbucks on San Pedro and Santa Clare
Avenue.

The Bad and Horrible Bus! wrote:
I was expecting a 10pm bus. I was first in
line and waited very patiently. The line started
forming around 9:50pm.

It is now 10:30pm and no bus. People are
getting fidgety! Yes! Even NT's fidget!

It is now 11:30pm and the last L.A bus
left and I found out there was a fire
on I-5. 12:30am a bus arrives and
everyone is annoyed

1am we arrive at the Oakland Station. The
UNFRIENDLY AND UNHELPFUL AND INCONSIDERATE
"DON'T EVEN ASK ME QUESTIONS AND SHUT
UP AND JUST SIT DOWN as*hole" security guard
at the Oakland Station said "just read your ticket
and sit down" and then he was bombarded with
questions.

The delayed bus situation had no answers.
So I and a few others ask about the Reno
and Oregon buses, and the UNFRIENDLY AND
INCURTIOUS ticket person might have well
said "I Don't Know".

Mr. Unfriendly Security Guard then say's (finally
something useful) that the 1:30am is going to Reno.

Fine! Fine! we wait! The Bus ride
was uneventful, but I will insert some postives
by removing negative venomous energies!

I arrive by 6:20am at the Sands. I see alot
of hotels. DO NOT RENT AT THESE MOTELS
NEAR the "Sands" area!

I am ringing the doorbell to ask the weekly rate.
A grogy lady answers and says the weekly rate
is $150. This covers me until next Thursday to
work out the details for later travels. The motel
was "Keno Motel" and is infront of Sands Casino.

The husband(a big black guy and former police
officer) say there is a $25 non-refundable cleaning
deposit. What?
Am I suspected of trashing rooms, (thinking
to myself #@###$#%$^%$^) I then ask
"Why am I being treated like a criminal?"

He explains that past history abuses of the building
require this. I suspect this is a common thing
in these divy motels, but at least he is mindful
of the propety.

I pay $195, including (a $25 cleaning fee!  )
And walk over to the artsy coffee shop on Virgina
and the Truckee River area and typing this on
line. $25 cleaning fee, my ass

1.) After getting arrested in utah for running away from Maine at the age of 15, I was put on a greyhound back. I put change in a vending machine to get something to eat at the Bus station and got nothing in return. I complained to the Station manager, but he wouldn't give me the $$$ back. As I was going out of the station to the bus, I spiderwebbed the window in the door.
Cheyenne Police were called, and when they heard my side, the cop let me go.

2,) My 'F--K OFF REAGAN' T-shirt,(which was more or less "appropriate" attire considering that this was 1982) offended one of the drivers, and he gave me the option of being put off of the bus, or wearing it inside out, as
it was the only clothing that I had.--Someplace west of Chicago

1985, age 18, San Francisco to Portland, Maine, Four Pieces of Baggage

1.)The crazy guy w/banjo that got put on the bus by the CHP near the Nevada Border incident. The cops actually pulled the bus over put him on. He was fine and kept to himself to a point, and I had actually managed to scam the back seat of the bus to strech out and sleep on. He took upon himself as cosmically correct to wake me up by kicking my legs as we were rolling out of Salt Lake City. He got into it with another passenger, later on who complained to the driver.(I didn't) As we stopped into Green River, Wyoming, I told the Driver about being kicked by this creep as he was making the decision to put him off the bus. Green River cops yanked him off in handcuffs.--The Revolving door of schizophrenia?

2.) Another Schizophrenic get's picked up in Cedar Falls, Iowa, She's not as bad, but she sits right behind me and preceeds to annoy the back of the bus by listening to the static on her portable radio. Static, nothing but
AM radio static. she would glide right past the radio stations and tune into the carrier frequencies. Thankfully her destination was Rock Island, Illinois.

3.) Somewhere between NYC and Boston,Mass. The Boston to Portland section of my ticket is swiped by some lowlife bum as I sleep, thus forcing me to walk from the Greyhound station off Boyleston St, down Tremont St, to the Highway (about 15-20 blocks, heavily laden with two HEAVY bags) and proceed to hitch hike the rest of the way to Portland.

4.) The other two bags (One of them a Fender Stratocaster Guitar) are NOT at the station in Portland when I get there that evening @6PM( It was morning when I left Boston). I wait a day and go back to the station and luckily the Stratocaster has arrived. The other bag of clothes, on the other hand DID NOT, Nor did they ever I imagine that It probably got shipped from San Francisco to Portland, OREGON instead.

2004, age 37, Portland Maine, SC.

Transferred to a differant bus at South Station in Boston, for the Boston NYC leg of the route. The distinct Eau D' Garbage should have given it away,as well as the age of the bus, but I climbed on the bus, and went to the back and sat down anyways. The seats looked clean but they were nasty....NEARLY ALL OF THEM!! !!--Or at least the ones that I tried out.
The one that I finally chose stuck to the bottom of my shorts.

Greyhound???? --Only in Desparation!!

Last November, my old crappy car died two weeks before I was supposed to go visit my parents for Christmas, so I ended up going Greyhound. I had to transfer buses three or four times and there was a delay at the first transfer, so I ended up missing all subsequent transfers and getting routed through countless tiny towns instead of taking a direct route. In the end I had to get picked up from a town two hours from my destination, to avoid sleeping overnight at some terminal.

It's Greyhound. It's cheap, so you have to go into it knowing that something is guaranteed to go wrong, and not expect otherwise. The game is to figure out what to expect by analyzing the situation instead of taking schedules and tickets and prices literally. Like, try to arrange it so that your transfers happen early in your trip, that way there's less time for the first bus to get behind schedule, and the bulk of the trip can happen without you ever having to leave the second bus.

That, and decide that as long as you get there eventually, it doesn't matter how many delays happen in the process.[/i]

What cool about this particular statement is
that I was 16 in 1982 and involved in the
Rocky Horror Picture show movie theatre
showing cast in Sunnyvale. It was at the
now defunct "Murphy Theatre". Located
on Murphy avenue. The building is a
Pizzaria and nightclub now! Thanks for
bringing back this memory

Don't ask me how many times this has
happened to me in the San Jose station!
I dislike that particular station as a rule
of thumb. Here is one better. They have
at least 5 powerplugs and will kick you out
for using them! Hmmmmm?

Huh? Spiderwebbed? I will try to translate
this!....Shook it wildly. This is what happened
at the horrible San Jose station whilst I was
there. A guy bought a drink and was banging
the machine and was almost kicked out!

The same thing applies to "f**k Bush" shirts after
9-11. And yes "f**k Reagan"! he sucked as a president.
I totally agree with your mind set then! And still agree
with it!

Lost luggage? I assume this is correct! Did you get
it back. And speaking of luggage, Goooddddd!
a gazillion pieces per party of 4 and all I brought was
a pillow case with clothing, some books, and hygiene
stuff! Pathetic! How do you expect to haul all that s**t???

fogman wrote:

The reason I wouldn't want to work or live in Reno
is they are ANNNNALLLLLLL! about everything. This
includes the non-refundable deposit issue, being or
looking out of place. I hold much reservation being
here and will harbour behind my computer at night
since they are more likely to react to the "curse of
being Ghosthunter". Good riddence to this place,
but I need to perfect my travel plans and it is
the cheapest out of California stayover that I would
want to spend to allow travel arrangements.

the most I can afford in the travel ticket to visit you

is to feed me and house me!

In Alabama, Greyhound is eliminating all the smaller stops where no one buys tickets so it will take less time to get from point a to point b.

Spiderwebbed, as in broke the Plate glass window, but not shattered it completely to the point where the glass separated from the doorframe.
--I'm sure you've seen this many times. In NE this is called spiderwebbing, because that's kinda what it looks like.

Indeed.Aside from the Kicking incident, as well as him nearly getting into a fight with another passenger, The only other odd thing that I really remember was the fact that he would run to the bathroom every 10-15 minutes or so. I more or less didn't know what was wrong with him at the time, but I found out several years later, that the majority of anti-psychotic medication that was used at that time (Is still used now) tendes to be extremely diuretic.--I outwardly assume schizophrenia.

Ghosthunter wrote:

Whilst on this leg of the journey, a few of the other people that had just been picked up remarked that the location of one of Iowa's state Psych hospitals was in Cedar Falls. I again assme schizophrenia, because she also had the habit of using the bathroom every ten minutes or so. I have also read that some people with this issue will listen/watch radio or TV static for voices, images, etc. Again, this is not an educated guess, but a
layman's assumption.

Actually, the only thing that I really recall from this trip was being rousted by State Troopers alngside of Revere marsh for rolling a Cigarette.... One of them thought that it was pot, and he pulled over, and more showed up.Other than that, the only thing that I really remember was being seriously bored, and angry due to the fact that I was now hitch hiking instead of already in Maine, due to the afore mentioned bum that swiped my ticket.

Actually South Station in Boston is really nice. They closed the original Grehound station sometime in between 1989 and 1991 and moved the terminal to South Station. It used to be kinda barren, but they finally finished it a couple of years ago. South station also doubles as the major MBTA station (Subway and Commuter Rail) as well as Boston's major Amtrak station. It's actually nice, but I think that what happened is that the bus that I got on was a standby that hadn't been cleaned.Needless to say this was the grungiest greyhound that I have ever been on.
