"something to look forward to" and "a symbol of the work we have to do"

Because nothing says "Democrat" like mass executions.

Kidman said the logo is not supposed to be taken literally.

“We’re not going to start a guillotine in Monument Square (in Portland) and start beheading people,” Kidman said. “It’s a symbol of the work we have to do to overcome flaws in our system – flaws that have become deeply evident in the last few weeks.”

^^Also, bad history. We don't need a Reign of Terror.

Maybe she just wants to make sure everyone knows she’s lost her head.

And isn't Sarah Gideon the Democratic frontrunner in the Maine Senate primary?

Ah.... of course, my old friend: the sweet smell of controversy enabled free publicity.
Well, certainly got us talking about her stunt.
My hat is off.

Saying “I take my hat off to you” is a common, albeit rather old fashioned, way of indicating respect for something done well.
(Refers back to the time when commoners had to remove their hats in the presence of the nobility.)

he probably already knows this thinks I as I type on compulsively regardless

^^That's fine--I understood you but wanted to make an uncalled-for morbid joke.

Bringing back hats? I'm cool with that. But the guillotine thing is taking it a little too far, eh?

Well, obviously these days you’d have a multi-neck power guillotine with built in solar panels.

So the t-shirt is misrepresenting the product and thus fake news.

It'd be built by Chinese labor for Amazon Prime. The good USA-made guillotines would have been built for American military use, then sold to jihadists in some forsaken Middle Eastern hole, and we'd have to build a bigger and better guillotine to go to war against our own goods.

That was a horrible decision to do that.

The word 'terrorist' entered the english language to describe English supporters of democracy in the decade after the French Revolution.

I think she nailed it. Democracy needs to be fought for. - the spectacle that is politics today hasn't much to do with a rule by the people, for the people.
