Joe Biden selects his running mate with announcement coming as early as today

Quote:
Joe Biden has selected his running mate, revealing to top advisers on Tuesday the woman he will invite to join his Democratic presidential ticket, two people familiar with the matter tell CNN.

He is poised to make the announcement as early as Tuesday.

The former vice president had spoken directly to the final contenders, according to people familiar with the process, through either face-to-face meetings or remote conversations. Officials would not say which of the candidates visited Biden in person, but CNN confirmed last week that Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer had flown to Delaware for a meeting. California Sen. Kamala Harris and former Obama national security adviser Susan Rice are among the others seen as the most serious contenders.

CNN had previously reported that Biden is also believed to be considering California Rep. Karen Bass, chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus, Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Sen. Tammy Duckworth of Illinois, people familiar with the search say.

In yet another sign that the pick is imminent, a Biden campaign official told CNN on Tuesday that they have assembled the staff for Biden's future running mate.

Karine Jean-Pierre, who joined the Biden campaign as a senior adviser in May, will lead the running mate's team as chief of staff. Jean-Pierre had previously worked for Barack Obama and Martin O'Malley's presidential campaigns.

Two veterans of the Obama-Biden administration are also joining the team. Liz Allen, who served as deputy communications director for Biden as vice president as well as deputy communications director in the White House, is joining as communications director to the running mate. And Sheila Nix, who was chief of staff to Biden's reelection campaign in 2012 and served as Jill Biden's chief of staff in the White House, will be a senior adviser to the running mate and spouse. The vice presidential pick is expected to also add a few of her own advisers to the team.

Whoever Biden settles on will be a history-making choice in her own right, becoming only the third woman to be nominated as a vice presidential candidate for a major party's ticket.

My guess is that the VP pick will be Kamala Harris, but I've been wrong before, so I'll simply assume that Biden's VP pick will:

1. Be a carbon-based life form
2. Have an age between 0 and the age of the universe
3. Be younger than Joe Biden

He did pick Harris.

Actually, the age would have to be between 35 and the age of the universe.

Item 2 and Item 3 are logically equivalent to a single statement "have an age between 0 and the age of Joe Biden".

But we already know his age

Well done to Bill for calling the Veepstakes correctly.

Tim (Klobuchar) and me (Whitmer) were both very far wrong. It seems like it came down to a final three of Harris, Rice, and Duckworth, with nutjob Representative Karen Bass also getting some late consideration.

Worth a laugh:

I knew it the moment they sparred in the first debate that they were gonna end up as running mates....partially BECAUSE they were so good at beating the crap out of each other...makes them perfect running mates (together they cast a wide net of appeal to varying views)...and the optics are perfect...old White dude, and the young Black woman.

They arent sure yet how old he is!

They did find Biden's birth certificate, in a pot in a cave in Egypt, but they havent translated it yet from the original heiroglyphics .

An extremely credible source called my office and told me that birth certificate is a fraud.

Well that was predictable.

This pick really blunts Trump's campaign tactic of trying to brand Biden as an old man who is or will become Antifa's or BLM's puppet which is why Harris was picked.

The question is if the race tightens up will enough wokes stay home to make a difference? Probably not because of how many true radicals/revolutionaries are there in swing states. It might have been enough if the pick was Klobuchar.

On the other side, how many racists will she drive to turn out for Trump? Probably minimal because a lot of true racists are in Trump column anyway. The country voted for a black man convincingly twice.

Then there is the sexism effect I don't think so but that is more underground because a lot of sexists are in relationships they don't want to break up.

Also, Harris performed below expectations the primaries indicating she might not be an effective campaigner.

All of the above factors are well below the main factor which is this election is a referendum on Trump.

Well, given Joe Biden's age (regardless of whether we are talking about 3000 BC Ancient Egypt or 13700000000 BC Ancient Universe), it is not inconceivable that he would only serve one term if he won...

... so the Democrats might also have been looking for their 2024 presidential candidate when their chose their 2020 VP candidate...

I think Biden wants to demonstrate he can work with people he has had conflict with. On top of that, Harris is easy on the eyes, and considering Biden's age (there is always the possibility that he might not survive his first term, or may well resign if he becomes too infirmed) he certainly could do worse for a successor.
