It seems like a lot of people are really shocked to find out their moral choices have consequences and that if you tell people you support hate, they might just want nothing to do with you.

How does WP feel about MAGA voters being shunned for their choice to support Donald Trump? Do you think it's reasonable to shun people who openly express support for bigotry?

There's a saying that "Trump might not be a racist, but the racists who voted for Trump believe he's a racist."

It's kind of the same here. She might not be anti-LGBTQ+... but she voted for the side that is.

She voted for the side backed by the Christian Nationalists. She voted for the side trying to get Trump Bibles into every classroom. She voted for the side trying to stop Trans everything. The side that equates Gays with pedos. The side that wants to bash Drag Queens.

If a Christian's friend realised their friend is a gay Satanist, would we be surprised if they ceased being friends.

If a black person discovered a high school friend joined the KKK, would we be scandalised if the black person stopped sending the KKK dude cards at Christmas?

The lesbian in the first video voted for Trump. Great. She has the right to vote for whomever she wants.

Everyone else has the right to stop inviting her over for cocktails.

I think it’s normal for people not to want to hang out with those whose views are bigoted or who have demonstrated that they support bigotry.

I’m not sure about full on shunning, but I certainly wouldn’t be interested in being close friends with a Trump supporter. It’d be hard to overlook the fact that they voted for a rapist, racist, etc., and it would limit the things we could talk about.

Donald Trump is a sex predator. He has been found civilly-liable for rape, meaning it was confirmed with evidence in court. In addition, he has tons more allegations against him, and he himself has gleefully boasted about sexually assaulting women because his fame/power allowed to get away with it including the interview where he bragged about going into dressing rooms at the pageants to see the women naked.

How in the world am I supposed to feel bad for someone who could excuse all of that and vote for him? Add that on with the fact that Trump, his admin, and the MAGATs (not necessarily all Trump voters persay) scapegoat LGBT people and immigrants, telling us that they are here to protect women and children from them. But, no, what I, as a woman, am worried about is any and all predators. Never had any issues with trans people or immigrants. Absolutely none. That's not to say that predators don't exist in those groups, predators exist in all groups, but that's a case by case basis. You don't punish the whole group because of a few bad people. Seeing a group of people who are fine with electing sex predators but have to take away freedoms and rights from innocent people because those people might be predators fills me with so much righteous anger. It's just pure evil. It's as evil as evil can get.

A rapist who bragged about invading women's spaces to look at girls naked is not someone that being anywhere outside of a jail cell makes me feel safe. In fact, now that he's president, all sex predators are feeling emboldened. You can be a sex predator and still become president! Yet, apparently you can't be president if you're a woman... What an absolute horrendous message this sends to our society.

Okay, but the sex predator thing is just one problem with Trump. He truthfully is abysmal in every single way. And it was all on display. How could anyone miss how absolutely horrible Trump is and would be if he got back in power?

1. The man is a corrupt, greedy convicted felon.
2. The man tried to steal the 2020 election (yes, we have ample evidence) and goaded on a failed insurrection.
3. As pointed out in the first point he is corrupt and greedy. This means he has no solutions for the economic issues that the people are facing. Absolutely none. He will cut taxes for the rich by taking away from the poor. He is a comic book villain.
4. He boasted about how he'll be a dictator "for a day", which we have no reason to believe will just be a day. It never is. The man looks up to dictators in other countries.
5. He is a puppet of the Religious Right. He told you that he won't implement Project 2025, but that's a load of BS. He is all in on the plans of the Religious Right. He implemented a whopping 64% of the Heritage Foundation's equivalent document in his first term. He stacked the Supreme Court with picks groomed by The Heritage Foundation and the Federalist Society. Yes, those picks that took Roe v Wade away from us and also declared Trump immune from consequences from any "official action". If you think this man won't implement Project 2025, you didn't pay attention to anything.
6. Relevant for the people of this forum: He has absolutely no respect for people who are disabled in any way. Neither do his Religious Right goons getting in power under him. Let me tell you, they think autism is something we need to be delivered from.

Those are just a few points.

So... Do I feel sympathy Trump voters being cut off? No. Not at all. They voted for the baddies. Them being baddies was so blatantly obvious. It was unmissable. Anyone who voted for him needs to leave me the F alone. Go. Get far away from me and face the consequences of your obviously bad decisions. The Christofascists you voted for will come after me first. You didn't stand up to them, you voted for them. You won't have me to cry in my shoulders when they come after you. And they will.

You do you, as they say. I could never dump a treasured lifelong friend because of a difference of opinion, to me that would be Narcissistic, thinking the world must think as I do. In fact, I think a true friendship is built upon toleration.

You do you, as they say. For me, anyone who would dump a treasured lifelong friend because of a difference of opinion was never really your friend. And doesn't understand the concept of Friendship.

Anyone who would vote for a politician who runs on hatred for your community clearly wasn't a true friend to begin with so it's really just acknowledging reality. If you find out your friend is a monster it's hard to continue to respect them and still be able to see them the same way. That's not a difference of opinion, that's a difference of morality.

So far, I have only unfriended one person due to this election--it was a distant cousin who posted far-right quotes, almost Alex Jones-type stuff.

That's what it would take for me to cut ties, at least temporary. But even then, doing so won't change the results of the election.

Also, I am certain a lot of MAGAs were more than eager to cut ties with those who voted for Harris.

Please stick to the topic at hand. The topic is people being socially ostracised due to their political beliefs, specifically following the recent US Presidential Election. The topic is not "please prove to me that Trump is bad", nor is it "here's why I don't like Joe Biden".

Trolling, including sealioning, is against WrongPlanet rules. If you believe another user to be trolling, please report the comments rather than engaging with them. The same goes for deliberately derailing a thread.
