The Real Joe Biden

So...after all of this political back and forth, I acquired two lengthy Joe Biden biographies (neither by 'conservatives'). And plowed through them. This is what I found.

The actual Joe Biden bears almost no relationship to the guy people on WP seem to like. He is to the right of Donald Trump, and it isn't a particularly close call.

Joe Biden's historical legacy will probably rest on his helping to dismantle Roosevelt's New Deal, and on his zealous role as a drug warrior and tough-on-crime legislator.

He was for the dreadful Iraq War , for the mass incarceration of blacks, against gay marriage, and against the legalization of drugs. Against socialized medicine and against busing.

One particularly nasty piece of legislation that Biden spearheaded allowed cops to easily confiscate property. The biographer said that property taken from citizens went from a few million dollars into the billions.

Joe Biden is a neoliberal, foreign policy hawk, the architect of the nasty 1994 crime bill, and the slave of wealthy corporate backers---most of all the DuPont Corporation which all but runs his home state of Delaware. Millions of dollars have flowed to his brother and children from places like Communist China and the Ukraine. And closer to home, where his brother James was guilty of receiving millions of dollars of questionable loans from banks looking for favors.

Tell me something I don't know. Our country is screwed beyond repair either way.

Based on the way the term has been used in recent times...Yes.

It's always best to look at what a politician has achieved in their time in politics, what they have endorsed\supported, and what they have ignored\failed to support.

All political acts are just that.

I was no great fan of more or less any president personally but I know a fascist when I see a fascist & we only just got a white house full of fascists.

I don't see Biden promising secret police raids on citizens.

I don't recall seeing anything about "secret police raids"...Is it so secret that only a few know about the creation of this "secret police" force, or the raids they have conducted?

Are we really becoming fascist or are we simply a failed state that is now being run by corrupt hardcore capitalists and their clueless enablers?

Well that's what feds in unmarked uniforms & rental vans amount too in case you hadn't considered it. Somebody's mom & her friends got arrested in Portland for one thing. People were getting tear gassed left & ...left.

I'm kind of unnerved how many hard-right Aussies feel compelled to impose uninformed, political violence slanted opinions on a site that's just trying to help people wherever they are. We have a president who uses a social networking fad to instigate riots during a pandemic man.

Oh, my appologies: I didn't realise that you don't have undercover police or unmarked police vehicles over there...Most other juristictions have these, so I suppose if they only just introduced them, then the concept may have been a shock.

I do recall seeing something about people being arrested by federal officers wearing DPU, but there were markings/badges on their uniforms (admittedly they do blend into the patttern slightly, so it would be easy for some to dishonestly claim there were no badges on them), so it must have been something else which didn't receive much publicity outside the town it happened in.

Just realised that I forgot to address the shameful issue of the teargassing: Is it possible that the "not left" were fortunate in being upwind of the teargas?

Actually, to help me understand the problem better, could you provide some images\video of what was happeneing, along with an indication of where the "left" and the "not left" were positioned (and what they were doing at the time) when people were being teargassed to assist me with understanding what was happening at the time, and why only the "left & ...left" happened to be targetted?

I'm not sure you're looking at the big picture fear campaign happening here.

I'm not sure you're considering the 30 people dead by rioters.

I'm fairly sure I have been looking at the "fear campaign" that is happening - the campaign involving rioting and looting is doing a good job in generating the fear.

Or was there some other "fear campaign" that hasn't been reported on?

So you're going beyond blame shifting into ambiguous misdirection?

It's all blameless when you think your candidate is untouchable.

Biden is deeply disappointing in almost every day, but at least he's not an incompetent, self-interested career criminal who is willing to intentionally harm the nation to maintain his grasp on power.

Mitt Romney would be an enough of an improvement over Trump that he would be worth supporting if he was the other option and I'm not a fan of Mitt Romney by any measure.
