Pay politicians on a fixed ratio of 2x the average income of the nation, and watch that average go up, and wage inequality go down. To help themselves they'd have to help everyone else, first.

Well, I suppose I specifically have my country in mind, but globally would not be a bad idea either.

I certainly don't dislike that idea.

It's hard to argue with this idea. The world needs to rethink economics on both global and local scales. All this and we must retain democracy too. This is of course what the Trump thing is all about. People don't want to hear this opinion anymore than the US South wanted to hear what John Brown had to say. I hope we can avoid what happened back then :(.

How about half of what the average income of citizens of the nation make, then really watch them squirm. ha ha.

What good will shuffling wealth among rich people do?

The capped person sells the capped wealth to lesser rich people.

Instead of 1 billionaire, now you have 100-1000 multi-millionaires who are under the cap.

Poor people don't see a dime.

No they don't get to sell the capped wealth, they can only make so much and everything else has to go to the state, which in effect could contribute to the universal basic income payments all the poor would get. Like they get no say in how the money that goes over the cap gets used(outside of public services and things they vote for), they aren't allowed to control that much money. Its not just a you cannot personally own this much money so you can just pander it off to your rich family...not its you would not get to control that amount of money it would go to the state. So no more just pumping your kids and relatives up with trust funds.....that just goes to the state instead.

Yes its wealth distribution, and no I am not against the idea of wealth distribution.

The problem as always is no incentive to make money over the cap. Private investment dries up so all investment has to be done by government, which is famously less effective at figuring out what ideas are good to invest in. You also concentrate an enormous amount of power in the government which becomes ripe for abuse if unscrupulous orange men gain control of it.

Now, make sure you read my comments here and speculate about my reasons for my attitudes while knowing that I am living on Social Security Disability at a rate that's 17 dollars a month below the poverty level for a household of 1 as set by the Department of Health and Human Services.

I am not in favor of wealth caps.

Would a cap on wealth have allowed Amazon to grow enough to become useful?
It certainly would not have allowed Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk to become wealthy enough to fund space exploration, electric automobiles, Starlink satellites for worldwide internet access, and the like.

Some notes for examples of what wealth cap collateral damage could make vanish:

(And yes, I know people are going to read this then come tell me, "But THAT is just ONE thing, just ONE factor, there is also this factor to consider ..., and this factor to consider ..., and this factor to consider ..., and this factor to consider ..., and this factor to consider ..., and this factor to consider ..., and this factor to consider ..., and this factor to consider ..., and this factor to consider ..., and this factor to consider ..., and this factor to consider ...,
(there seems to be a certain personality type, or philosophy, of people who are of the mind that efforts are wrong unless they address every imaginable factor all at once immediately at the very start)

Quote:
Jeff Bezos announced on Thursday that he gave $100 million to Feeding America for the Covid-19 Response Fund, which supports the work carried out by 200 food banks. It is the largest gift the 41-year-old anti-hunger organization has ever received and one of the biggest commitments made by an individual donor to a coronavirus relief effort.

Bezos also urged others to make a gift to help food banks do more as demand for aid rises.

Quote:
Just after he became the world’s richest man one year ago, Bezos, who had until then been conspicuously absent from the world of serious charitable giving, announced that he would give $2 billion to bolster homelessness services and early childhood education in the US. He quickly sent $100 million to two dozen well-regarded nonprofits working to provide shelter to homeless families across the country.

And since then, he has done something that even the nonprofits receiving his millions remark is highly unusual: He has given them life-changing money with virtually no restrictions, formal vetting, or oversight, according to Recode’s interviews with eight of those funded by him and others familiar with his donations.

And often as part of the wealth and who actually needs how much of it discussion the topic of private aircraft comes up.
How much of the following would be destroyed by a wealth cap?

https://www.flyingmag.com/resources/aviation-charities/

Quote:
Aviation Charities

Aviation-related charities are staffed by individuals who are dedicated to providing care, kindness, and frequently transportation. Some services are health-related, some are prompted by emergencies, and some are related to fostering emotional well-being. A list of organizations serving the country appears below.

A specific instance,

Quote:
Zack Schmidt loves to fly. In fact, it seems as if he is always flying. Whether for his job as an air ambulance pilot, as an Experimental Aircraft Association Young Eagles program volunteer introducing youths to flight, to visit with family in North Carolina, or just for fun.

But all those hours at the controls wasn’t enough for the Hoschton, Ga. resident. So, in June Schmidt became a Mercy Flight Southeast volunteer pilot.

“Approximately 650 pilots provide free air transportation to Mercy Flight Southeast passengers across the Southeast,” said Steve Purello, Mercy Flight Southeast CEO. “The pilots donate their time, fuel and airplanes to help the passengers get to far-from-home medical care. Without the generosity of pilots like Zack, these people would not be able to get to life-saving treatment because of the cost or distance to travel.”

That is why it is up to the people to put pressure on them...and like no we don't need to give into capitalism to do so. I say facism is a disease but I don't think that much higher of capitalism its like fascism's hillbilly cousin and also a disease.
