Quote:
Joe Biden is notoriously 'weak' on China
13/11/2020|4min

When Joe Biden was vice president he had a track record for being weak on China, which does not bode well for how he will handle Beijing when he is president, according to Sky News contributor Miranda Devine.

President-elect Joe Biden contacted leaders from Australia, Japan and South Korea to assure them America will continue to focus on the region during his administration.

President Donald Trump took a hard line with China, implementing a 25 per cent tax on a basket of Chinese imports, which caused Beijing to retaliate and implement similar tariffs on American goods.

Relationships between the two powers worsened due to the spread of COVID-19, which originated in Wuhan, China.

On Thursday, local time, President Trump signed an executive order banning Americans from investing in Chinese firms that the government claimed are owned or controlled by the Chinese military.

Ms Devine told Sky News when Mr Biden was Barack Obama's vice president, China significantly advanced its military influence, particularly in the South China Sea.

"Donald Trump was very strong against China, he called them out for malfeasant even before the pandemic came along," she said.

"I think because Joe Biden in the past, he was Barack Obama's point man on China, and he was very weak on China, he let them get away from militarizing those islands in the South China Sea, with stealing intellectual property from American companies and so on.

"I think China will test the new Biden administration."

Nixon was weak on China too, but it actually turned out well. Hardline policies don't always work--just ask farmers in the mid west.

China is a more powerful country than the US, so the US has fewer and fewer real options for being "strong" on China. That ship has probably sailed…

And by turning his back on his (former) European allies, Trump has significantly increased the relative strength of China on the global level, as there is no longer a somewhat unified Western world to act as a counter-balance to Chinese influence.

Raising prices for Americans is not "taking a hard line with China".

The Germans for one, are taking a huge interest in what is happening in the area.

There is some talk about the Democrats strengthening alliances with countries in the pacific.
I hope, for Australia's sake, that that will happen.
Lets face it, China* has its eye on world domination.
Move over Adolf. 8O

I'm guessing they will take Taiwan before they come for Australia, btw.

What does exactly the word "weak" mean in this context?
Non-confrontational?
Unwilling to use threats?
Trying to de-escalate tensions?

Weak means "unwilling to launch an assault with nuclear weapons". Australians are ridiculously paranoid concerning China. In addition, you can confidently discredit anybody who relies on Sky News to learn about the world. Here in North America we know that the real threat to our freedom is represented by Donald Trump and his toadies. Too bad we didn't recognize that during the Obama administration when he began signaling his intentions.

I can easily understand why Australians are very concerned about US-China relations - just as Poles are concerned about US-Russia relations - but I can't understand why some seem to support threatning with WWIII.
Maybe they imagine it wouldn't happen on their soil or take their lives :/

...

Sorry. My nation is still recovering from the deep trauma of WWII, WWI and all the previous wars and uprisings. I get emotionally triggered by the concept that someone may want millions of the Chinese and other inhabitants of the region to suffer the same.

I decide to interpret it as sarcasm to protect my faith in humanity.
