My parents had a bunch of people over for our birthdays (we're clustered within a month so we can have a one-off celebration). We had relatives over, my family are mostly rather staunch Republicans and by extension have been big Trump fans. The constant chat about election fraud and 'this will all be cleared up' was going around, depressing but not surprising.

What got me the most though was that there's a channel, NewsMax, I'd never heard of them but I had a good moment of horror when they were showing the blue vs. red victory states, they had a bunch of states including Nevada flipped back to gray, and they were showing Biden with something like 253 electoral votes.

I don't know if it's just me but this looks like a solid case of not just Twitter and Facebook now guiding the behavior of news channels, in this case it seems to be guiding niche-filling. For example if my parents and relatives are that angry that we can't tell whether the mail-in votes really went that predominantly to Biden and if there's that much of a concern about election and voting fraud based on Dominion voting terminals maybe they should really think wait... both parties f'd us, for their own gain, they can make whatever they want of this, and all they had to do was be responsible adults about closing the loop on voting fraud and guess what - there was zero will to do so. Instead of actually turning their anger in the right direction they're getting all sorts of talking heads egging them on to see the Biden presidency as invalid.

What really irritates me about this, there was all sorts of talk by people about how concerned we were about this election and how it would be declared invalid no matter what. Things were actually very quiet, at least for what I could tell, for almost a week after the election. I could be wrong, if someone saw a lot more of this happening from the get go let me know because it could have just penetrated my sphere late, but I get the sense that 3.5 million votes should really close it, that Donald Trump got 70 million votes should force the DNC to introspect, if anyone would decide to put a voting box in that has a legitimate risk of fraud within 5% - 10% margin of error don't just fire them immediately, throw them in jail and throw anyone in there with them who says 'They're in muh party - we'll filibuster or outvote that decision'. You can't do democracy that way, no matter whose running.

Newsmax? Yeah, I've heard of them. Loony, ridiculously right wing conspiracy outlet trying to pass itself off as part of the news media. Now, they've got big ambitions of replacing Fox as the center of the Trump cult.

Fox News called Arizona for Biden when only 73% of the vote was in and many Trump supporters saw it as a sign that Fox was just another msm station that was out to get them.
It's only logical that they would turn to even more right-wing sources.

Gotta wonder what Fox is doing to do in regard to their future.

I would not be surprised - in fact, I'd be slightly surprised if it *didn't* happen - if Trump (+ family and associates) would latch on to either NewsMax or One America News Network as a new source of income post-departure from the White House.

His regular businesses were largely unprofitable even before COVID-19, but I'm sure he is looking on how to translate his 88.9 million followers on Twitter into a profitable TV audience. He'll probably succeed, too.

I've heard enough people, not in this thread but in general, mention Disney's purchase of Fox back in 2019. In that sense a lot of the old anchors might already be looking for an exit, similarly I heard mention that Sean Hannity is interested in joining NewsMax, strange choice - it's like jumping over to BitChute (it's pretty much that - Republican BitChute on TV) but whatever floats his boat I guess!

If that actually goes where it seems like - nothing will hold the center of the Republican party in terms of networks, and then there's a question, what'll be done with that void? I've got some good ideas as I'd have for the Democratic party if the same thing happened over there but fat chance of it happening.

The acquisition of 21st Century Fox by Disney took place on March 20, 2019.  Among other key assets, the acquisition of 21st Century Fox by Disney included the 20th Century Fox film and television studios, U.S. cable/satellite channels such as FX, Fox Networks Group, a 73% stake in National Geographic Partners, Indian television broadcaster Star India, and a 30% stake in Hulu.

Immediately preceding the acquisition, however, 21st Century Fox spun off the Fox Broadcasting Company, Fox Television Stations, Fox News Channel, Fox Business, FS1, FS2, Fox Deportes, and the Big Ten Network into the newly formed Fox Corporation.  Hence, Disney does not own the Fox News Network.

I can easily see that in Newsmax' future.

At least now we will not be confused over the question, "Is Fox News a news channel or a tabloid channel?"

Because, by comparison, NewsMax makes Fox News look more and more like CNN with each passing day.
