We need to stop labeling dissidents as "conspiracy theorists

It's very patronizing and a massive stifling of very much needed nuanced discourse by affirming one and only one position and narrative, and branding all deviance and dissent from the official narrative as dissent. Right now we're finding out that Fauci is a corrupt scumbag who put a lid on many of the details of the Coronavirus, that masks don't actually work, and lo and behold Covid-19 escaped from a lab - basically what the "conspiracy theorists" were arguing for a long time.

Look let me just put it out there: of course there are legitimately idiotic conspiracy theorists. Of course QAnon peddles some outrageous drivel that makes even me nauseate. And of course David Icke is crazy and so is Alex Jones

But not everyone who questions the mainstream or orthodox is David Icke or Alex Jones. Given the corruption of the media, the level of censoriousness that pervades this country, of course the official narrative for everything will seem the most trustworthy when facts that contradict it are censored and suppressed.

Im not saying every and any conspiracy theory is right because the mainstream is always wrong; all I'm saying is that the mainstream isn't necessarily right and that sometimes what may sound crazy can actually be true.

The idea of a conspiracy itself isn't too farfetched. Didn't the cabal that assassinated Julius Caesar, was that not a conspiracy? In the dramatized play of that event written by Shakespeare there was a scene where a man with a letter tried to warn Caesar of his impending death by the assassins, and Caesar dismissed it in modern parlance as nothing but a conspiracy. If Caesar were alive today and the paper warning of his assassination were to circulate, modern day fact checkers and truth monopolizers would insist that the letter is "fake news" and ban it....until the assassination happens and everyone who scoffed at it as a conspiracy is made to look like an idiot.

Dissidents need to stop being conspiracy theorists.

A good example is what is on the news recently.

With all the obvious lies being pushed about this vaccine, it is no wonder why people don't want it.

If the news concentrated on speaking the truth and not trying to manipulate people, more people would have the vaccine as they would not be so cautious.

The fact that so many people on WP are desperately clutching conspiracy theories just props up my belief that autistic folks aren't actually more logical than NTs, they're just better at rationalizing their own emotions.

It also reaffirms my suspicion that this place is in a death spiral with ever slowing traffic, and the few posters who remain are content to squawk about Fauci/nazi/evil vaccine/ooga booga!

Its about control
Ridicule is a powerful weapon and they use it because it works to control people.

Not everyone sees the world through the same lens. People on this website should be painfully aware of this. I know I am.
Two different people can view the same thing and walk away with two differing accounts of what happened. Everyone is going to interpret reality through their own worldview, experience, bias, and beliefs. Some have greater intuition some don't. Some have better analytic ability and some do not. Just because my friend sees the world differently doesn't make him a conspiracy theorist of a evil person. We have the freedom to disagree with anyone.

While the coronavirus MAY have escaped from a lab, it also MAY have been passed along from bats to humans through some poorly-prepared batwing soup.  There is so far no conclusive evidence either way.

The fact that something may be possible does not mean that it is certain; but once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.

We will just have to wait and see...
