Now it’s official. I always said I’d believe it when it happened, not when an opinion draft was mysteriously “leaked” (yeah, right).

What does this mean, exactly? Nothing. Absolutely NOTHING. There will be some reactions, even violent ones, and it will blow over and everyone will forget about it. SCOTUS has now returned the issue of abortion to voters and their representatives where it should have been all along.

If you are in a red state, you most likely never would have been or would be interested in getting an abortion. If you are in a blue state, you ALREADY have access to abortion. According to the news people, just over half of Americans want legal abortion. It’s only a matter of time before federal law allows women to murder babies.

Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade

The U.S. Supreme Court has today formally released a ruling that overturns the nearly 50-year-old decision of Roe v. Wade that protected a pregnant woman's right to choose to have an abortion.

The decision overturns the 1973 ruling on Roe, which protected women who seek an abortion "without undue restrictive interference from the government," guaranteed under the Fourteenth Amendment. Planned Parenthood v. Casey from 1992, which mostly protected those same rights, is also repealed under the new ruling.

Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, doing away with half century of precedent

Quote:
The Supreme Court on Friday overturned the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling that guaranteed a constitutional right to an abortion, a momentous break from a half century of rulings on one of the nation’s most controversial issues. About half the states have already indicated they would move to ban the procedure.

Chief Justice John Roberts voted with the other conservative justices to uphold the Mississippi law but urged against going further.

"Surely we should adhere closely to principles of judicial restraint here, where the broader path the Court chooses entails repudiating a constitutional right we have not only previously recognized, but also expressly reaffirmed applying the doctrine of stare decisis," he wrote.

In a dissent, liberal Justices Stephen Breyer, Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor said the court "reverses course today for one reason and one reason only: because the composition of this Court has changed."

"Today, the proclivities of individuals rule," they added. "The Court departs from its obligation to faithfully and impartially apply the law."

"With sorrow — for this Court, but more, for the many millions of American women who have today lost a fundamental constitutional protection — we dissent," they concluded.

Very glad that I am now past reproductive age.I had the right to choose my whole reproductive life.
So when will they decide the death penalty is wrong? If life is so sacred, why does the prison system get to murder?

Time for far-left revolutionaries to wreak havoc on all the red states.

SCOTUS is Pro-Birth, not Pro-Life, as long as they allow for capital punishment.

I'm sorry to hear this, Americans.

Any time now, it'll be the same ruling in Britain. It's spreading all over the world, look at Poland. :x

Well f**k the supreme court, I wish I could poop in their chairs.

In some states women will die if their pregnancy goes wrong and they need an abortion, I hope it happens to couples who support the supreme court on this. :D

What does it mean, exactly?

Does this restrict access to all terminations at any stage for any reason?
Does it give power to the states instead?

Are there penalties?

I don't really follow the news.

I was trying to think of a polite way to answer this too, Sweetleaf.
You're more tactful than I am.

Yes Isabella, there are serious penalties , and yes back into the hands of the States . Whom have bias populations concerning a women right to control their own bodies / healthcare . This was a foundational right , that many other civil rights decisions were / are based on . It has been in place 50 yrs . This is very sad … for everyone . Whom believe in civil
Rights. :(

Thanks.

I certainly know what the original RvW was - I just wasn't sure what the ramifications are with today's ruling.
It's indeed a tragic day for human rights. Draconian.

I don't even want to know what the penalties would be.

Do they strengthen the laws against sexual assault to offset this?
