Just opened, apparently:

https://www.vice.com/en/article/bvjnyv/ ... -in-canada

There’s already Dana Larsen’s protest dispensary selling all kinds of magic mush rooms and several other psychedelics, and several other mushroom dispensaries around Vancouver now that weed is legal as mush & psyches are the next big push for legalization.. and while 2.5g of anything is now decriminalized, the only legal way to buy clean supply stuff is via a couple small pilot programs including from vending machines that have restricted access.

So this store and its concept is new. My guess is buddy’s probably gonna get arrested, and then he’ll just keep doing it and getting arrested and raided by the VPD until he ends up in court doing his constitutional challenge thing - which will be a good thing for drug policy reform, IMO.

And then in the long run the gov’t isn’t gonna give him licences to operate stores across the country just like they never gave licences to grey market weed dispensaries. They’ll make stupid expensive regulations that only deep pockets can afford and then give licences to the politically, business, and police connected to profit from.

Anyways, just another day in the Wild Wild West. Maybe I’ll pop in there and take a look just like I did in Dana’s shop. (But I didn’t buy anything there as I wasn’t in the market in the moment.)

Seems he was busy getting arrested ~about the time I was posting predicting that he would be arrested:

https://canoe.com/news/crime/vancouver- ... b0fd47722b

His business lasted about a day before the VPD shut him down, seized his inventory and body armour, and told him to stay away from the DTES.

I doubt he has the funds to buy another trailer and open up shop again like that. And I wonder if he has the funds to pay his lawyer for his constitutional challenge.. or who knows, maybe this lawyer has a boner for doing this kind of work and wants his name attached to challenging Canada's outdated laws that prohibit people from conducting business that saves the lives of drug users.

Hippie days are back again and I'm completely out of the loop.

Hippie days never left. They’ve been selling hippie things at Wreck Beach and in the Kitsilano area for 50-60 years.

This isn’t hippie stuff. It’s good to have someone challenging unjust laws, though. It’s nice that he’ll be taking it to court.

Guy should have known this would happen on day 1. Only street dealers selling unknown substances are permitted to slang on the block - and there are literally dozens of them out working at a time, rarely getting arrested, often selling harmful substances. So, good on this guy for doing his protest thing.

Whoopsiedoodle:

https://vancouversun.com/news/local-new ... d-overdose

:/

Guess he either had an unsafe supply, used someone else’ that thought it was safe, Or he was possibly a fentanyl user and accidentally od’d due to one of any number of reasons.

In any event, his protest and charter challenge was valid, IMO.

I never met the guy and that’s not my scene, but a friend who met him at a festival a decade ago was offered a job at his store but declined for legal reasons. Basically, the kind of people needed to mount this sort of protest are people who already have criminal drug convictions so that one more on their record isn’t gonna change much of anything in their lives or what they’re restricted from - like travel, mostly.

I do hope someone else, or some organization, continues this sort of work here as it is necessary. 6 people per day die of od’s in BC, mostly due to fentanyl tainted drugs. I knew several people who’ve died so far - well, let them, we weren’t close friends but still.

Kinda like those local Christian pastors during the recent pandemic who would preach to their congregations to NOT get covid vaccinations...who weeks later... would die of covid themselves.

The drug store? Is that where you go to buy a malted milk?
