I tried to post this link before for discussion, but the link seemed to be totally ignored in favor of discussing other things that had more to do with the way I introduced the link than the link itself. I thought it might be worth posting again.

i didn't find it THAT interesting Jeanne, i do work at humility, but the article is very left/wet. it's nothing a 'liberal' wouldn't say. there's many types of christianity, the idea that only liberal christianity is correct is uh a bit too twee.

sorry.

Its pretty much just saying think of all the different factions, views, and otherwise analytically and realize that everyone's difference in beliefs has its own place, good, and purpose which it provides. I can't and wouldn't argue with that logic at all, its what we all should be doing regardless of faith.

I agree that the person writing the excerpt is liberal in her thinking, but I don't think that her position is that she is somehow "correct" or that any of us are "correct" for that matter. Her point was that we all may have gotten a little bit right and a little bit wrong, which is why it is so important for liberals not to ignore conservatives and vice versa.

Honestly, it doesn't really seem like you read the article at all!

to a point, its refreshing to hear that approach. I have never felt like i was 'in the box' with christianity. Being an aspie, i have always had serious problems with being around people and to put them in a church is more difficult. I felt like i was putting on a face for everyone there, not to appear better, but to hopefully avoid being judged. I went through a christian private college and the biggest complaint was not the sins that people sometimes comitted.. It was the way people treated each other and were steadfast in proving each other wrong in stupid doctrines. They were in such a protected place, they could not relate to non christians or for that matter, the rest of the world. That, and the air of superiority that a christian can have( myself included) when regarding others.

Did their actions make me doubt God? No. My beliefs are not based on man's behavior, but on God's goodness and desire to know us and to be known. In that case, its not the condition of man, but the condition of God and his approach to us just as we are. We must be able to walk into any situation and see people with needs instead of 'Sinners'. Arguing with an atheist for ten hours is not going to change their stance. But being a friend just as they are just might.

Jesus didn't like religious people either. It's true, religious environments provide room for a lot of pretending, and too many people go for it, putting on their "Sunday best". But honesty should always trump trying to make an impression.
