Where does it come from? How do we determine what is true and what isn’t?

We can best attempt to determine the truth by formulating testable hypotheses and testing them repeatedly, examining our biases in the process and constantly trying to prove ourselves wrong.

I'd say it's act of resistance in the face of pervasive chaos. It's an attempt to pin down the butterfly that would otherwise cause a tornado. It's a point of light where we can huddle together in a pitch black universe.

If we can agree something is true then we can strike out together from there in pursuit of a goal.

In that sense, truth comes from necessity. I doubt we'd get much done without it.
