I'm sick of young Americans obsessing over communism!

I get that Capitalism is failing us and that many people here in the US were disgusted by the rise Trumpism. Believe me I get it! But why do we now have so many gullible young people in this country wishing for communism? I especially can't stand listening to people like my own sister whitewash the horribly cruel things that Communist leaders have done to stay in power like when we brought up Fidel Castro taking over Cuba and she said "Well yeah people had to die but..." and then she went on about how supposedly "every" cuban who fled Castro was a slave owner. I even tried explaining to her that I never would have survived in Cuba under Fidel's rule because he was known to lock homosexuals up in concentration camps and she of course dismissed my concerns! My same sister who claims to support LGBTQ rights because of me!

I swear sometimes I feel like I'm living in pre AND post-war Germany when the fascists and communists were force feeding every German citizen propaganda in their struggle for power which did nothing but tear the country in half!

Communism is more terrible even than capitalism.

A balance of restrained capitalism with socialism would be most people's ideal I think, if they recognized the implications of such a system.

I agree, there should be a healthy balance of both or at least an actual change to the system that can benefit everybody. I just don't get why so many people in the US nowadays want to replace one failing system with a system that never worked to begin with?

Don't get me wrong I love my sister dearly, just like I love my oldest brother despite the fact that he's a Trump supporter.

But that conversation we had will always stick in my mind now. I really had chills when she showed disregard for the fact that Communist leaders are notorious for oppressing and murdering their own people to cling to power and the way she got mad at me and dismissed me when I tried explaining to her the terrible things Fidel Castro did to homosexuals which is one of the driving reasons why I would never support living under communism.

Trumpism is going to be bad too. At this point it feels like a war of evil vs evil is taking over the US and I don't know how we can dig ourselves out of this mess. Where are all the sane people in America? :(

The US government used the rise of communist Russia as an excuse to wage war on any form of civil dissension within its own country and in other countries. Any post-colonial movement that dared to introduce "socialist" principles was labelled a threat, secondly any form of civil rights organisations in the US (including unions) were unfairly labelled communist. Americans who supported social justice were locked up in jail or forced to leave the country,

The reality was communism was never a threat but it gave the FBI and CIA overt powers over its own citizens.

Americans who keep dragging the "dangers" of communism into conversations in 2023 are invoking a long dead issue for the sake of anti-wokeness.

Sounds to me like someone reads too much into Communist propaganda.

I think you are both right and wrong. Communism was both a danger to us and the perfect scapegoat for the feds in power during the McCarthy era.

But don't whitewash it by saying they were never a threat to us when they had atomic missles pointed right at us. That's total BS and you know it!

And for the record anybody who says "Communism was never a threat to anybody!" Is just as deluded as any Trump cultist claiming that their orange messiah was "Chosen by God!".

*sigh* stuff like this just proves my point. This is exactly why I can't stand it back home. -_-

Communists infiltrated our schools years ago and have been slowly "educating" our children to be more sympathetic and favorable to communism.

Believe me I've noticed. It's the only silver lining to me not getting a chance to go to college like my mom and sister did.

That certainly explains a lot! My mom and sister don't seem to appreciate anything I attempt to do out of artistic expression. It always eventually turns into a confrontation about my manic episodes from having bipolar disorder. I guess they would both rather I remain an emotionally numb souless zombie?

Granted, the Soviet's did plant spies and the threat of nuclear codes landing in the wrong hands mean't security around nuclear facilities However this is a very very specific set of security protocols and only a handful of people have high level security clearance who could be easily monitored. You Americans had that covered.

But trying to conflate issues like unions fighting for fair wages, welfare systems to protect the vulnerable, women's rights, LGBTQI rights and anti-racism as "communist infiltration": was BS.

The US has one of the worst records in the developed world for welfare, free education and free healthcare because your governments successfully conflated the giving of rights to poor people as an example of communism and extolling the virtues of the now redundant rugged individualistic principles of the US constitution like the right to carry arms. This was convenient to spend less on people and more on defence and sure up support from the white conservative christian gun carrying heartland that is America.

In 2023 the "De Satan brigade" have launched their war on the education system claiming that teaching history is giving to the woke mob, Many red states have successfully threatened teachers who teach specific areas of US history, Wokeness in this instance is equated with communism - trans people in schools, the teaching of gender and America's well documented racist past, present and likely future. By stamping this out of schools there is a continuation of the McCarthy era tactics that should have been outlawed a long long time ago.

Believe it or not I actually agree with you on much of this. In my country the real "red scare" comes from conservative red states like the one where I grew up and still live in.

But having said that you're never going to convince me I'd be better off living under Communism. I find it highly ironic when people like you condemn the US for its bigotry towards homosexuals and transgenders but will turn a blind eye to countries like Cuba which have done much worse.

There's a difference between socialism and communism as political theories and the way that Communism was implemented in an authoritarian way in several Communist countries. What countries like the USSR, China, and in some respects Cuba did was to create authoritarian states purportedly based on communist ideals, but in practice subverting them, so that there was effectively a ruling class that controlled the population. So it's not exactly fair to judge communism and socialism based on what was done in those countries. If socialist and communist ideals were implemented in the way that they were originally conceived, they would create much more just societies than Capitalism does.

And what exactly makes people who support American Communism think that our leaders won't pull the exact same crap that Russia, China, North Korea, and Cuba did?
