Id guess the lines could be literal lines, as in lined paper. In the mind perhaps the lines that we think between, patterns of thought that prevent us seeing other opportunities.
Or they could be lines of text, poetry or prose.
I like phrases like this that allow for multiple meanings and require some interpretation. I know that most autistic people don't.

This statement suggests that occasionally, adhering strictly to straight lines in both writing and thinking might be limiting or rigid. It implies a preference for embracing creativity and flexibility.
The phrase "sometimes the lines are too straight on the page, or in the mind, for that matter" is metaphorical. It means that sticking too rigidly to conventional or straightforward thinking, represented by "straight lines," can be restrictive.
For instance, if someone is overly literal in their interpretation of information, they might struggle to see beyond the literal meaning of words or concepts. In creativity or problem-solving, this mindset could limit their ability to explore innovative ideas or think outside established boundaries.
In writing, if someone only follows a strict, linear structure without incorporating varied perspectives or styles, their expression may lack depth and nuance. Essentially, the statement encourages a more open-minded and flexible approach to thinking and creativity, suggesting that not everything should conform to a rigid, linear pattern.
