Hi yall,
I have become aware that pastors get to be exempt from social security taxes if it against their religious beliefs. However pastors and other religious workers have to pay other taxes on their income.I think the combined amount of taxes you can be exempt from as a pastor is roughly 15 percent of gross income. However just paying taxes into social security would most likely be better for most pastors because they will just spend their extra money instead of putting it towards their retirement nest egg. However pastors have to pay social security taxes if they have another job at another place of business.

Also Amish and Mennonite individuals dont have to pay self-employment taxes on their business income because of religious reasons. They think that the church should basically take care of their own who are needy and disabled instead of the government. However this only applies to Amish and Mennonite who are self-employed.I think they can also get out of paying workman's comp. This reduced overhead has really been a major driver in their success in business.

This has made lots of non-Amish and non-Mennonite really angry since this allows the Amish and Mennonite to beat their competition in business. Also in Amish and Mennonite culture a lot of the young people work so that contributes to the child tax credit or it might.I dont know.I dont like how certain religions get more special tax breaks and special treatment than all the other religions.

I think this loophole should be open to those outside of the Amish and Mennonite churches.I think the Amish and Mennonites who work for non-Amish and non-Mennonite have to pay into FICA taxes but they are exempt if the work for Amish and Mennonite businesses.I guess it could be worse.I guess I should be glad that Amish and Mennonite pay some federal taxes.I think its unfair that you can get out of paying social security by being a pastor. As a pastor, I think yall should be able to get that loophole too.I dont think it should just be limited to people like me.I think its unfair that the ministers of the church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster dont get special tax treatment like I will get.

I like your desire for consistency on this matter.
